Well....I guess like my headline says Has anyone tried this yet?

I have... but it wasn't mine. Maybe he'll post some pictures of it if he sees this thread! I'll come back later and write a more descriptive post.

Yeah, I have. Both artificially and naturally. I soaked and sanded it (looked much better—hated the look of the leather when I got it, since it seem to have been ironed flat!!). The pigment comes off extremely easily. As in, I can scratch it off with my fingernail if I dig hard enough.

The only major problem with the water treatment is that the sleeves became very narrow when the jacket shrank on drying, which I actually did pretty slowly—so now it looks like I've got pipecleaner arms :S

I also wore it jackhammering in the field digging up dinosaurs, and it got tonnes of rock sludge on it, which then dried to a fine-grained dust. Looks pretty good.

My advice is to dry it REALLY slowly if you don't want it looking like the jacket right at the end of Temple of Doom, where the thing is clearly a size or two too small for him, in the arms at least.

Man, if THAT doesn't test the durability of these things NOTHING will!

yea i recently bought the new XXL since the XL was a bit tight. I think mine shrank slightly too, or the lininning just doesnt lay as tightly since soaking it so many times. It did the most distressing with the water to my pocket flaps and the bottom of the jack back panel. Im surprised an a bit upset it didnt stay more perminently wrinkled from soaking. I did 2 cold water soaks and let air dry. Then did a warmer water soaking, let dry. Did a little bit of dryer work, but pulled it out constantly to make sure it didnt shrink much. I think the bigger size this jacket was when i first got it, which fit me well, it disapeared. Im a little upset about that, but ive worked in the jacekt alot now. Sanding mildly, and rubbing it up against a brink wall inside my office (works great) Ill get pics this week from NYCC when i dress as indy... actually this friday. With alot of fullers earht this jackets going to look amazing. Im going to soak it some again before the con too, the little bit of weight the water adds looks soooo good.

I'll see if I can borrow a digital camera. Mine's stuffed.

It's pretty much a dead ringer for a Raiders jacket. Or rather it was, before I shrank it! Now it's sort of a Raiders/TOD hybrid

looks good dude! The jackets tend to lay a bit not so straight drape on me given my back and chest are pretty wide, which is the one thing i hate after shrinking mine some, back panel doesnt lay as flat. Thats why im going to soak the jacket a bit again when i wear it for Comic Con on friday, i want that nice drape. And in think it needs just that tad bit more of weight in the jacket to make it swoosh as nciely as indys does when hes running from the hovitos.

Would using regular Pecards give this jacket the wieght it needs or would that be to much?

It will add some perceived weight, but don't put on too much or you'll be spending a lot of extra time with a hair dryer and a rag liquifying the excess and wiping it back off.

The lotion is water based, and therefore will not add weight.

The problem with this jacket in the first place was that it was too soft and supple, because the leather was absurdly thin and stretchy. Sure, it didn't look too bad, but it sure felt strange to handle.

It took a couple of water treatments to dry out a bit and start to look and feel more like real leather, rather than imitation hide. Now that it's there, I'm hesitant to put Pecard's on it, since it will probably make it super-stretchy and supple again.

By supple I mean you can see every seam of your shirt printed through the leather!!! Now it's dry it doesn't do that so much.

Of course, it's not a really good solution. But by the time it wears out I might have a Magnoli LC jacket or at least will be able to afford one.
