Just got my Todds Standard

It looks great. I got an XL. It feels a little snug in the arms and shoulders. I am 5'11" and 180lbs. I can't imagine that I need and XXL. Does the leather need to wear in a bit? Does it feel snug because the leather is still stiff. I never owned a leather jacket before so I don't have much experience with leather.

Thanks,
Jeff

Sorry I could not resist, show us some pictures of your jacket smurf, then we can tell how it fits you and give you nice compliments on your Todd's jacket.

I took pictures but my card reader isn't working. I thought I sized up enough. I really didn't think I would need an XXL, but I have decided to exchange it. I sent an email to Todd about an exchange. It looked great, but it just didn't feel right and I can't deal with that. I'm not sure why I even asked for advice. I already knew the answer. I need to send it back.

Thanks,
Jeff Sweet :(

That Coyle's standard leather isn't stiff. It's like tropical weight wool cloth it's so thin. I'm 6'2 and I'd say the xxl sleeve length is great but the torso is pretty short. I'm waiting to see how it goes down after I lose this winter weight. After all, it's not the jacket's fault that I ate too much. These jackets are small for the sizing. I like the leather though. Now that it has stopped smelling like a gas station. I don't know what all this talk about gouges is.

I wish Todd's would adjust their size chart. It's really off. I normally wear a 46 and wound up sending an XL back because it's still short on the length and snug around the arms. I bet they get a lot of exchanges/ returns etc because of the sizing.

Best regards,

I agree. I had to send my xl back for an xxl because it was just a tad too snug around the chest...and I haven't worn an xxl anything for a long time. I'm bummed because the sleeves were the perfect length. I'm hoping that the xxl's sleeves will fit okay.

Gentlemen! I have come to the simple conclusion that we are just getting larger! The size we think we wear is truly turning out to be the size we wore 10 years ago!

I'm actually the same size now that I was 10 years ago. If I were to try on a XXL normally, it would be huge. Enough for two of me to fit inside. Every other Indy style jacket I own, Wested, US Wings, G&B etc. are all larges. Todds sizing chart is way off track in my opinion. Nice jacket though.

I'm way the heck smaller now than I was 10 years ago...by about 75 pounds! I just received my xxl and it's a much better fit all around. Sleeve length is good and it seems to fit just perfect. It just seemed depressing to order an xxl when I usually wear a large! Oh well, it's a great jacket!

I lost about 65lbs over the last couple of years and I thought I would never have to go back to XXL but I guess I have to. I normally also wear a large.

I do, unfortunately all my card readers aren't working at the moment. I sent it back yesterday anyway. I looks good on me but it just doesn't feel right so I rather get something I can wear on a regular basis. I do love the jacket. I can't wait for the XXL.

Aeris_Canon wrote:Smurf, it would help to see a picture of it on. It makes sense that you might need an XXL for a Todd's. The jackets are not cut to fit like the modern, extra roomy jackets. They're cut to fit like the Raiders jacket in the film. They may feel a bit (Sorry guys but I have to) "costumey" to you; however, the jacket is designed to "look" the part, not necessarily to "feel" like a modern day jacket from Sears or wherever.

Todd's size charts are actually on. Without second guessing the numbers, just go by the "FITS Chest sizes" section and not the actual Chest size column that's listed.

Normally I'm a 43" chest - and on most standard jackets, a medium; however, for a Todd's I see that I would need a large instead.

Smurf? You have any pics of the thing on?
I don't know about this look versus fit thing. But you're right about the sizing. He says right on the website how big the corresponding XL and XXL's are. That's why I ordered the XXL when I'm normally an XL jacket. I don't think the jacket would look or feel right with the sleeves stopping just below my elbows and the waste above my belly button and unable to be zippered up.

AC, I have a 44" chest and purchased an XL (first time in life). No way would the L have fit.

Peace.

In my opinion, Todd's sizing chart is off, but not as far as US Wings the other direction. Guess you can't please everybody.

Could they be reversed? Normally isn't the 'chest' or overall jacket measurement true to size or the size + x number of inches ( A 42" actually fitting a 44-46" chest because of the assumed tailor add for room)? Todd's chart looks like it's going the other way.

Sleeve length Chest Fits chest size Length
S 32" 44" 36"-38" 23½"
M 33" 46" 38"-40" 24½"
L 33½" 48" 40"-42" 25"
XL 35½" 50" 42"-44" 25¼"
XXL 36¼" 52" 44"-46" 25¾"

So if my jacket size is a 38 then which size should I go with? How small do these run? I fit comfortably into a medium normally, if that helps. Advice from those guys who actually own the jacket would be greatly appreciated.

I usually wear a large or 42 REG jacket. Based on others information here I went with XL. The measurements Todd has are all pretty close for the XL. The body is a little shorter than I am used to but the sleeves are perfect. I would say try one size up, though you will find many suggest going two. It really depends how close the measuments are for you. Maybe measure a jacket that fits how you like and compare to Todd's numbers. I have been wearing the jacket often and like it the more I wear it, as it breaks in.

Well I normally go witht he small because I prefer the snug fit but according to Todds size chart, 38 is the smallest size for medium, which leads be to belive that if this jacket runs small then 38 might be perfect for the medium.

Thanks by the way.
