Patches on leather jackets...specifically the A2

I don't think this is off topic; after all, it IS about leather jackets. :D

I recently found a nice A2 jacket, possibly goatskin, in our local Army-Navy store that would fit my son perfectly. I don't know what brand it is, but it seems very durable and reminds me of my own USWings goatskin Indy.

The problem: it has those velcro patches on the breast that you attach a nameplate on the right, and the military division patch on the left. That way the patches can be easily changed or removed, for whatever reason.

My question: could those patches of velcro be removed from the jacket without leaving an unsightly dark spot or stitching holes? Since it is a new jacket, I don't think there would be any discoloring underneath, but I worry about the holes from the stitching showing an outline and looking ugly. Any comments or experience with this?

Thanks.

If it was ME...I'd just leave 'em there....or get something to cover them like some reproduction WWII insignia or something like that. I personally think the patches and stuff on A2s give them character....

Oh, and they're velcro so that in the event that the pilot goes down behind enemy lines, he can remove them easily and destroy them to that he cannot be identified by the enemy....

Hey Jeephoto, if it's your son that's into STar Wars, maybe y'all could velcro on a STar WArs commander insigna. I've seen them on Ebay before. just a thought.

That's why some are velcro! I didn't know that. Interesting....

p.s. I like the Bugs Bunny Photo Recon patch on yours, Indydawg! I seem to recall our Ranger buddies liking it too.

Yep...

If I'm remembering my military procedures correctly, that's why those patches are velcro.

And thanks, man...._ got me into those historically accurate A2s about this time last year and I did a whole bunch of reading and research on those WWII Fighter Squadrons. The 14th Photo Recon Squadron was just a patch that I saw and really liked...mostly because I'm a HUGE Bugs Bunny fan (as is my daughter), and the cool history of the 14th PR I found out AFTER I had decided I liked it. That sealed the deal for me and I decided to get it....

Yeah....those Ranger boys DID seem to like that insignia, didn't they? Man, that was a good time Sat. night....

Anywho....I say LEAVE the insignia there!
