Gray Indy Crystal Skull Fedora... A new debate?

This may spark a heated debate on whether or not the hat is actually gray but here it goes.

In the new video on the official Indiana Jones site showcasing Shia & his sword work, there is a scene where Ford shakes hands with Shia. And, I swear that hat is gray for sure.
So, Steve, did you make some gray lids for Ford to wear at the College?
If someone can do a screen capture or two that show that hat go for it, but here is a link to start with.

Now, it could just be the lighting and all, but it sure looks gray to me or maybe a gray/tan color. But it is definitely looks like a lighter color closer to his suit coat.

What sat you?

Cheers!

It's been discussed a little bit over here (with a screen capture):

But it might be nice to have a thread about the hat here. Also, Steve confirmed in there that this was one of the gray fedoras he made for the film. Looking at the screen capture and video, I almost wonder if this hat has a tighter, almost Raiders-esque pinch to it.

best wishes,
Nebraska Schulte

Yup, grey lid and a slightly different look to it.

Ah, I see. Thank you. The screen captures didn't seem to pop up though. But it clears up the gray question.

Cheers!

How could it be a debate?

Yep, no debate. All you have to do is ask the guy that made the hats. We've known there was going to be a gray hat in this film since before any pictures were seen of it.

No debate. I've got a piece of the gray hat.

Steve sent me a piece of the brown hat and a piece of the gray hat in my self-addressed- stamped envelope.

It's gray all right!

According to Marc, there were 48 brown hats and 2 gray hats, and Steve made both of 'em.

The "debate" question being more of yanking the chain of those that have debated over the gray vs brown in Raiders in the past. It's obviously gray or a gray/tan depending on the lighting & one's monitor. But it sure fits him well in those shots, and it's super cool to see the 'other' hat.

Cheers!

The gray hat in Raiders was...........gray. The gray hat returned in this new film, but I don't think it is the exact same gray as was in Raiders.(Oxford Gray) Spielberg, from my understanding has this thing about Indy traveling in a gray hat with suit. It was ignored for whatever reason in TLC, but returns in this film. Not the exact same shade of gray, but gray nontheless. And I used a different block to make the gray hats. Per their request. And although I can't tell it from what I have seen so far, this gray hat is taller than the browns. With more brim. But not the sought after Oxford Gray that HJ no longer offers. As I mentioned prior, it was a surprise to me that my gray hats were used, as I had been told it was too light, and they would pick some up off the shelf as it did not have to match the brown hats in looks. They just needed a gray hat. Originally, Indy was to wear it on the motor cycle, and I was surprised when we did not see it. It turns out, he may have worn it in one location only, but I am not really sure as I have no inside info on that. Bernie kept most of that info to himself, very close to the vest. Fedora

Well, in any case, it's a sharp looking lid from what I saw in the video. Good job! :) Hopefully we get to see more of it around the University scenes.

Cheers!

Thanks to Steve, I had a gray fedora that color before Indy did.
