Cleaning your bullwhip question?
What process do you guys do to clean your whips after a session of cracking? I've read soap and water! What kind of soap? hot or cold water? Should you put pecards on after each time that you clean them?
Soap? Water? Nightmare. That's only for cleaning the whole whip but I don't believe you use regular soap, just water and saddle soap. That should rarely be needed if at all.
Pecards is different. You need to pecard the fall every so often so that the fall doesn't dry out. You can do it after every session or every other session.

I use fiebings saddle soap when I clean my whip...You really dont have to clean it too often. What I do is dampen a reg and rub the soap on it, then I clean off the whip with it. Then I dry it off with a different rag. You'll get some dirt and stuff off but you wont be able to see a difference. For the fall...I always hit it with some fiebings leather conditioner after a session.

Solo, I usually just wipe them down with a soft clean cloth, sometimes I’ll dampen the cloth a little and wipe the whip down to remove any dust or dirt that’s lingering, especially on the fall. That seems to be fine for the most part. I’ll add a bit of Pecards classic leather conditioner to the fall after every couple of practices too and condition the whips as needed.
I rarely use saddle soap; If your just cracking whips on a grassy lawn or a finished floor you really don’t need it, at least not often. I only use saddle soap if one of my whips get especially dirty or if i've used them in less then favorable conditions like a corral, or if I get a used whip that looks like it could use a thorough cleaning and conditioning.
