Hello all,
I've been browsing these forums for months getting as much information as I can. I've done searches and thread readings until I'd literally injure myself. (Things are a lot tougher to read and learn about without forum stickies to organize the info ) It's so overwhelming that I simply can't retain it all.
Anyhow, I was looking to get a Wested jacket initially because they said they are the originators of the Raiders and LC style jackets, and that
according to their website,
"Why buy a Wested? Because Peter Botwright of Wested Leather made the originals for the films and the Indy Jackets are derived from the original patterns and specifications, unlike others who have only made unauthorised pirate copies",
they say they have the original patterns to make the SA jacket of your choosing. So if this is what they are advertising, then why are the Wested jackets all over the place in design, and why is it that, according to information found here on CoW, Peter's current patterns derive almost completely from input from CoW forum readers? Where are the original SA patterns used to make THE Jacket? It would seem like false advertising to me -- and make you concerned about whether or not you are getting what is advertised.
It's just something I noticed that I cannot explain.

Re: Wested -- Original Patterns and Specifications
As has been mentioned before Peter has changed the jacket to fit whatever the fans want. Good for him. With that said, yes Peter made the original jackets. Yes Wested makes Indiana Jones jackets today. Can they duplicate a jacket in exact detail that they made in 1980? That’s tough. In many ways the modern Wested owes it’s existence to Lee Keppler. He’s the one that contacted Peter in 1987 about making some Indy jackets. What he originally got from Peter was a monstrosity by our standards. The jacket had shoulder pads and was waist length. It came to be known as the “Bell Hop” jacket. Lee sent Peter one of his Flight Suits made jackets to reproduce. Please note that although this jacket was made by Flight Suits, it was not the Expedition.DrT wrote:Hello all,

Of course by now, with modern technology (ie, the internet), somebody else would surely have contacted Peter by now to make them an “Indiana Jones” jacket. I have no doubt he would be making them today. Cheers
PS- Actually, Peter was contacted by “someone” (Lucasfilm), to make the LC jacket. Incidently, what was given to him to use to copy or work from was one of Keppler's Flightsuits jackets.
Re: Wested -- Original Patterns and Specifications
The only explanation is that they didn't tell the truth. When I got my LC jacket, the first thing I noticed was that the design was wrong in very obvious ways. The certificate of authenticity was a sham.DrT wrote:

Having said that, it's a pretty cool jacket and well made - I think of it as "inspired" by IJ which is almost good enough for me.
But it is anoying to be told something that is so obviously not correct.
If I could have my life over again - I'd buy a G&B jacket.
