Hi...I have thought hard about this and asked around and have not getten my answer on this subject..

when you buy a totally brand new jacket.say a 44 it's stiff and tuff and after wearing it will loosen up and start to take your body frame.

now the thing I am worried about is this...after say wearing it in about ten or maby 20 years will the jacket have loosen so much up it looses it's shape and will it almost be maby an inch or more longer in body length after wearing it so much then what it was when you first got the jacket

I just dont want to have a ''saggy'' and unshaped looking jacket in about ten years or so

any replyes are highly apreciated

Haven't had one for that long, but I guess only if you yourself end up "saggy" and "unshaped." ;)

Don't worry leather will never relax that much. I'm not even sure if you could stretch it that far. Shrinkage and cracking are far more likely problems but if you use a good leather conditioner you should be fine.

As you break your leather in it losses it's memory or stiffness and becomes much more flexible allowing it to flow and better conform to your shape. This flexibility comes as the leather breaks down... eventually your leather jacket will turn to dust but thanks to the tanning process your demise should proceed your jackets. The breaking in of the leather has more to do with the breaking down of the bonds in the material and less to do with stretching them although stretching does occur but mainly at high stress points.

Unlike most things in life leather improves with age (to a certain extent). There is nothing better than a 20 plus year old leather jacket.

Combine that with the chance you might lose some height over the years, and you could end up with an Indy overcoat! :)

Just my opinion, but I think you're worrying a little too much.

At the rate you're buying jackets, I doubt you'll have the same jacket 20 years later. I wouldn't be surprised if you have 30 jackets by then. :)
