I've been eyeballing the J Crew Red Wing rugged classic boots and was curious about which would be the better color? I like the dark wood myself, but does anyone think the hickory would be the better choice after some dark polish? Check it out.....

Both are really nice and I don't think you can go wrong with either.
It really comes down to YOU. Will they be strictly "costume" gear or everyday wear? What will you be wearing with them other than Indy gear?

To me the hickory looks more like the color of the current Aldens 405's, but as is plainly evident in researching this topic, the current 405's color is quite controversial!

I'm with Tron, but I think I do like the hickory color bestest.

I like the dark wood color.

I'm drawn to the hickory...but just by a small margin.

I'm liking Dark Wood - but then again the leather might darken over time, in which case Hickory is fine - but for that out of the box Raiders color, Dark Wood.

Now the wait for them to go on sale!

I picked up a pair of these two days ago. They are very nice.

I have both the Alden 405s and the Redwing Classics. The Aldens are pretty much my everyday wear, and the Redwings get the nod in foul weather and icy conditions. Of the two colors offered by J. Crew, the Hickory is a pretty decent match to the current Alden 405s for color. Here are mine, side by side for comparison:
