Wested novapelle...is that French for distressed 'Moo-Cow'?

can someone tell me the difference in Wested's 'Novapelle' and the pre-distressed Cow hide? Novapelle is cow, right? Is it some kind of treatment? Which one is thickest? I can't find any info whatsoever on their site about the different hides or finishes, and searching here led me to posts with the same question, but no answers.

I thought Novapelle WAS Wested's predistressed cow? Either way, I can tell you that 'thick' would not be how I'd ever describe my novapelle jacket... It's more along the lines of a lambskin in thickness if you ask me.

they show Dark Brown Pre-Distressed Cowhide, and Novapelle Hide.
-In addition to their Authentic Brown Lamb, Goat and Horse, and Dark Brown Lamb! -But their leather samples page only shows generic samples- Cowhide, Goatskin, Lambskin, Pre-Distressed Hide, and Authentic Lambskin.
-Doesn't show Horsehide, or say if the pre-distressed is cow, just 'hide', but I guess we assume it's the cow.

Hi Ron,
They are 2 distinct leathers, the predistressed cow is slightly heavier weight and is slightly thicker than the novapelle. Both are cowhides.
The Predistressed Cowhide with flash, after one application of pecards:
The Novapelle brand new in daylight:
The NP has a subtle warm brown undertone that some cameras do not show.
The Predistressed cowhide has a much more 'cracked' surface than the NP.

From what I've read recently, novapelle is just a reference to a color rather than a specific 'thing', so it's just referring to the distressed coloration of the cowhide. That being the case, anything produced by any other vendors also has novapelle jacket for sale. It just sounds 'cooler' calling it that name.

You normally never comment on my comments Michaelson, so I guess it's a free call to correct You, but guess what? I wont!!!!
Your description sound the way I understodd it too, but having recently tried hard to get the full picture of the CS-jacket, I've realized, that those who actually know seem to keep very low profile untill after the premiere.
But color or not, I for one really like the look of the new jacket. It may not drape the way lamb does, but it certainly has a color that appeals to me. The "vintage Indy" looks cool, and the colors, as You mention it, seems to be a very delibrate (correct spelled?) choice for Indy being now an older person than in the previous films.
Part of that decision is, IMO, the choice of more balanced colors in the CS-gear, whereas the ROTLA colors were very "young" and "rebel"-like.
I therefore find the "Novapella"-look very vintage and elegant for the Indy of 2008.
So though the hide itself may be very close to the ones we allreay know, the coloration of it is a very interesting new approach to the color-styling of indy.
Cheers Indy-K

Whatever it looks like, the name seems to be derived from the Italian for
"new skin, or "nuova pelle."

Does anyone know the difference- if any in the thicknesses of the two? Which is thicker/heavier?

In French it would be nouveau peau, and cow is vache.

You sound disappointed, K!
From what I've been told by Wings, it falls between their currently offered distressed cowhide and their heavyweight VIP, if you've ever had those two in hand. So, it sounds like it's a medium weight cowhide jacket.

Just an observation, M
I'm waiting for a Novapella as we speak, but I somehow had the impression (from KT) that the novapella was thicker than the lamb, and I therefore fell for it, since it also looked more durable than the lamb.
But what scares me a little now is Castors words that it is about the same thickness...
But I will tell my opinion right here, when I receive the novapella.

KT, does that mean that Wested has veg tanned lamb in 'authentic' brown, or is it still the brick-red brown hide?

It is veg tanned, has a semi matt surface and is very thin, as thin as the roltaa lamb. Peter mentiioned it a week or 2 back.
The colour is in the authentic brown region. You will need to see a sample for yourself to decide. It is one of those that looks very different in different lights.

I got a Novapelle Last Crusade late last year and I very much like it, so for those who are pondering the Novapelle, I vote "go for it." It drapes better than any cowhide I've ever worn.
