Has anyone tried to make a dummy pistol (I don't mean an accurate
repro)? If so, it would be nice to see some pics of the process and finished
product.
I often see grips for far cheaper than a real gun or repro, and thought it
might make a reasonable holster-stuffer. This would be a nice alternative for
those situations in which it is irresponsible to carry either a real or accurate
repro pistol.

Off the top of my head, I'd get a piece of 3/8" softwood, cut a 6x10 rectangle out of it and trace a grip onto one end, starting in a corner, with the flat butt end of the grip on the long side.

Cut that portion out with a fine saw and cut the remainder in a vaguely "gun" shape to fit the holster.

Paint the visible "grip frame" portion a glossy black, perhaps the rest of the "gun shape" pink.

Glue and screw the grips onto the "grip frame", modifying them as necessary so they lay flat.

Screw a lanyard loop into the "grip frame", I'd pre-drill, use a longer screw and epoxy in place.

If you want to fill out the "cylinder bulge" area a bit to give the holster support, cut a couple 2" x 2-1/2" rectangels of the same wood and glue them in place. Maybe make it 2 deep on a side and use a sander to round it a bit.

Anyway, that's what I'd do, shouldn't take any time at all assuming you have the tools. A hobbyist bandsaw and fixed sander (or router I suppose) would make it easier.

Thanks! I made several long guns for my kids out of 1X6 I was just looking
for pics for inspiration. I found a place where you can get a set of Webley
grips for $19 (HERE) but no source yet for a lanyard ring. If I can find one of
those, I can make a reasonable mock-up for display, until I can get
enough money together to buy the real thing.

I believe the guys on the resin gun thread found a good source of lanyard rings.

Sounds like you've got all the skills and tools you'd need.

Since all but the grip area is hidden, I think just a "gun shape" would work for the body. If you have a prop or real pistol, I'd trace it and use the paper as a guide.

I've just been going by the mark VIs I've seen on the web. They almost always
have the other grips. I see from the resin repro that I had THAT wrong!

Indy's Webley is a Webley Green, not a Mk VI as is commonly believed. Hence the bird's beak grip.
