That's a lovely looking whip! Mine never seem to come out that neat. Why seven strands in the hitch? I assume one is a core strand? Either way, very nice work!

The seventh half-hitch isn't a core strand. It's actually the same strand as the 6th half-hitch - I just tie that strand around in a second half-hitch before I send it up through the hole in the fall. Paul Nolan taught me to do it this way, and he does it on his whips too. It may be overkill in all honesty, but just in case that strand pulls out of the hole in the fall, I like knowing that there's an extra "double" knot that would have to come loose before the whole fall hitch would begin unraveling.

Lauren, excellent job on both the 8 ft and the 10 ft Indys. Thanks for posting them. I told Paul, I’m going to start calling you the Princess of Plaiting and the Wonder woman of whip making!
