Club Obi Wan

Here's a few pictures of an 8ft I recently finished that shares a lot of its specs with the documented Raiders whip. The diameter of the handle is the same, the transition knot is a smidge darker than the rest of the whip, the butt knot shape is very close, etc. A few things are different though - for example, my fall hitch has 7 instead of 6 half hitches. But overall, I thought it was fun to check out the similarities and differences between my whip and the pictures of the documented Raiders whip.

That's a lovely looking whip! Mine never seem to come out that neat. Why seven strands in the hitch? I assume one is a core strand? Either way, very nice work!

The seventh half-hitch isn't a core strand. It's actually the same strand as the 6th half-hitch - I just tie that strand around in a second half-hitch before I send it up through the hole in the fall. Paul Nolan taught me to do it this way, and he does it on his whips too. It may be overkill in all honesty, but just in case that strand pulls out of the hole in the fall, I like knowing that there's an extra "double" knot that would have to come loose before the whole fall hitch would begin unraveling.
