Peterbrothers question

Hi everyone. When looking at Peter Brothers, they offer these different types:
Stiff Rabbit Blend
Soft Rabbit Blend
Stiff Beaver Blend
100% Beaver
They go up in price dramtically as you go down the scale, but which one is the most simillar to the material used in the films. I realize this may be a difficult question, considering that so many have been used.

Thanks gents! Does anyone recommend these hats? I want the nicest hat I can of course, but don't want to wait three months for one.

I HIGHLY recommend them, as I've handled two of the 3 new versions, and have one in the 'mill' as we speak. Well made, custom, and the felt sourced from the same felter that AB and Art Fawcett uses.
Just good hats all way round.

Here is my Custome PB that was bashed to LC but later added the pinch from raiders myself. I love this hat, have had it for 4 years now and it served me great. Rain storms, dirt and been blown off my head and fell down a cliff and has still keeped a great look. Though when i ordered they didn't have all the options as they do now but i have a beaver blend. I'm sure that they are just as good if not better from when i ordered mine. It took about a month or two to get mine from them.

Viper, I'd definitely send that in to be reblocked. Got some nasty taper there. :junior: -M

Forgive me i'm a little green when it comes to spotting tappering because i'm not sure what it actually is. To what area of the hat is tappered?
Posted: Fri Mar 14, 2008 3:59 pm
by Mulceber
taper is when the sides of the crown go from being like this: [ ] to like this / \
It tends to happen to hats that haven't been reblocked in a few years as the felt tries to go back to it's natural cone-shape. The way you fix it is by sending it back to it's maker and having them reblock it. :junior: -M

ah i see what you mean now i thought for some reason it met when the brim wasn't retaining its shape. I can see what you talking about now, i'll have to contact PB to see how much and what they can do. thank you

No problem. It shouldn't be too expensive, especially since they made the hat. :junior: -M
Ps. Love the Master-chief helmet in the photo.

Which style do people prefer? I've lawyas wanted a Raiders, but after watching Temple again last night, I'm almost leaning that way. The Temple one just seems more subtle in pinch and height then the Raiders one. I'm having quite the dilema here.

or you could go Raiders and Temple of the Last Crusade for just a general Indy look without screen accuracy.

That's what I do. I ask for a the LC style, then after months of grabbing it by the front pinch (yeah, I know
), messing with the brim, bumping the crown on things, tossing it around, etc. it just takes on a life of its own. I'm not to big into screen accuracy, just spirit accuracy.

That would feature a shorter hat with a nice pinch (but not too distinct), correct? I love Raiders the most, but the pinch is so tight, that your option sounds pretty good.
Posted: Sun Mar 16, 2008 3:43 pm

True. I've never been a tall crown fan myself, but then with my height, it just makes me look like I'm wearing a top hat, so a medium height is fine with me. Same opinion of the tight pinch. I've never particularily liked it.

I ordered mine today, and can expect it in 6-8 weeks (so much quicker than an AB)!
I asked for a LC hat with a Crusade pinch and height look, and they said no problem. I even quoted Michaelson by saying I didn't want my Fedora looking like a top hat, and they liked that comment. Thanks to all, and I can't wait to get pics of this thing up!

Congrats on your order i think you will be pleased. Which felt did you order? Your going for the same style as mine. I just was email the owner of PB and i will be sending mine back in to have a clean and reblock. They do a complete break down of the hat and restyle so it should come back as a new hat. But i can expect a six to eight week wait as well. But before you know it you'll have a nice lid to keep your head warm.

GOOD for you! Joe is good people, and the PB crew is great to work with. Looking forward to hearing what you think when your hat arrives!

I went with the soft Rabbit blend. Should be a beaut! I can't wait to share my thoughts with it as well!

I had the new PB rabbit prototype in hand last Fall, and if that one had fit me (it was a tad too snug), it would have stayed right here in my closet. Yes, I liked it that much.
You chose wisely, in my opinion.

The size thing has certainly been on my mind, as I was wondering how it should fit; not too tight but not too loose, correct?
How'd you get your hands on a prototype?!

Cool man, I was starting to think I was the only one with a PB hat. I really enjoy mine, had it for about 2 years. I have some pics around here somewhere.....Anyway, I think you'll be pleased with it.

Yes thats the way mine is fited. Come to think of it when i first got it, it wasn't lose but deffidently not snug. Which i had the hat blow off my head one day. Once i had it in the rain it shrunk a tad and then it was a good fit, i could pull it down on my head when it was windy and it wouldn't come off.

That's 100 percent real dirt I got behind my parents house. lol. I think it had some old charcoal ash mixed in with it. Had the girl in the pics throw handfuls of it at me....which she seemed to enjoy too much.

LOL ya when i got my jacket i asked my girl to throw me in the dirt to try and disstress it. She said yes a little too quickly

For all of you PB owners:
I am currently in the process of looking for a fedora to order and I love the way PB looks, costs, and the type felt they use.
After reviewing other threads, do any of ya'lls PB hats "turn green", and do they hold up in extreme conditions?

Had mine a year and it hasnt turned green, I havent worn it out in the weather, so I couldnt tell you about that.

Nope, I have not experienced green either.

Mine turned green, but it took many wearings in major downpours (what Michaelson would call "frog stranglers"). But, those were rabbit hats and was about 4 years ago. It also "bleed" when it got really wet. I still swear by the PB workmanship, but the choice in felt back then wasn't the best. For the record, my Federation began to turn green before I had to put it out to pasture. I wore the heck out of that one as well.

He's now using the same felt that is used by AB and Art Fawcett, BDJ, and the creaftsmanship is better as ever! My PB beaver is hanging in front of me on my hall tree, and it's a beauty!
Yeah, yeah, I know....no pictures....
Guess what? I FINALLY GOT A CAMERA!!!!!!
Now, to figure out how to use the dang thing.

On that note, I just spoke with Joe.
He said in order to make sure they have felt and enough time to produce hats for folks in time for the film premiere, please email him at:
joe@pbhats.com
He can tell you what kind of turn around you'll have when you make your order. He has a pile of orders, but plans on having them done in time for the film, but please drop him an email to see where things stand at any given time.

I've had mine for about 4 years before the new felt options but i've never had it turn green. It did bleed when i whore it in the rain but that was only once and it didn't discolor the hat at all.
