Hat reblock

I've read alot of threads about "do-it-yourself" hat reblocking, and it looks like fun, but buying my own block and flange seems to be expensive. Does anybody know of a hatter who does cheap reblocks AND does it with a reasonably SA Raiders block? I know Steve does reblocks but as many have mentioned, he's a tiny bit bogged down right now.

Thanks guys!

Here's the thread with the block making tutorial. Fairly straight-forward, and it'll save you at least $100. Flanges are another matter; don't know how to address that one. I'm working off this tutorial right now, seems to be going swimmingly!

Good luck, Andy

I appreciate the response airforceindy, and the thread is VERY interesting (I love woodwork and being industrious). However, I'm just a college kid with no spare time on my hands and definitely no workshop or tools. I really just need a referral to someone who I can send my hat to, get a cheap reblock, and then get the hat sent back. Thanks again, though.

I wish there was a specific person, but it's a fur felt DP. Don't get me wrong, it's a great hat but it's just got alot of taper in it. The crown is the right height but it just needs to be a little stretched out and I just don't think I can do it myself. (btw, I'm very happy to see you're a Giants fan, I am too)

I made my hat block my senior year in the machine shop of the engineering building. If you have such a shop at your school, you might want to find out what you need to do to use it (if you can find some sapre time).

Well, I do spend 98% of my time in the Engineering building, but between my senior course load, two part-time jobs, finding a real job, and spending time with my "Marion", I really just don't have the time to be a carpenter (no offense to Harrison Ford). Once again, I really do appreciate the thought and the reply but I just want someone else to reblock for me, as cheaply as possible.

The DP may not be worth the reblock.

How did a Giants fan get out in you neck of the woods?

I was worried someone would tell me it wasn't worth it. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Anyway, I really don't know why, but I'm just a huge Giants fan. I still need to put up my Giants fathead poster beside my Raiders poster. Go G-men!
