My new 10ft Raiders Bullwhip
Just thought I would share a few pics of my new 10ft 12 plait Kangaroo hide Raiders bullwhip I purchased from Whiskyman a few weeks ago....It arrived in the mail yesterday and I couldn't be more happy with it.
You don't have to be a whip expert to recognize true craftsmanship and Nick is an excellent whip maker and was a pleasure doing business with.
An added bonus is that Nick made my whip using hide he purchased from Dave Morgan.
I finally got the Indy whip I always wanted and I couldn't be happier...
Oh, and in the one shot that is my 8ft 12 plait Kangaroo hide Indy bullwhip I purchased from Western Stage Props a few years ago.

My compliments also go to Nick for his new "opera"
What is the difference in length between 2 handles??
G
Well, I measured both handles from the end of the turks knot to just under the transition knot....(I'm not sure if that's the correct way to do that) and the new whip's hand measures about 8 inches and my other handle measures about 7 inches....
I think roughly there's about an inch difference.

Thanks again, everyone.
Dan, that is my Russell Shultz Indy bullwhip from WSP. I think the reason it's darkened up so much is because of the Pecards and having it outside in the sun a lot. The whip used to be the same color as my new whip from Nick. I just hope my new whip darkens up like that because I do love the color.
Neo, because of the lousy weather with the rain and snow I haven't taken it out and cracked it yet. Hopefully the weather will warm up and dry out so I can go out and break it in.

I'm just taking a well earned break! I've stopped taking on any fresh orders for the moment because I don't like having long lead times. As soon as the lead time exceeds 6 weeks, I put the brakes on.Red Dust wrote:OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH bugger.. thats the exact whip ive ordered off whiskeyman.. man your getting me exicited.. should i be?
I'll be accepting new orders before long.
Thanks for all the kind words - Harry, i'm glad you like your whip and I hope you enjoy cracking it. Don't be too worried about the weather, it's not that fragile! I use my whips in snow, rain and mud if need be. If they get a bit damp I let them dry gradually in a nice big loose coil and apply a littel Pecards.
Until recently I had an 8ft that nobody else wanted because I put an excessive taper in the handle. I decided to use and abuse that whip mecilessly to see how tough my whips were. I cracked it on gravel, did wraps on fences and then pulled myself up steep slopes with it - all the sorts of things you generally don't do - and it didn't bother the whip at all. It got a little scuffed and I had to clean it often, but it was able to take a beating. I'm not saying anyone should abuse their whips - but don't treat them like porcelain either - at least not mine.

I sold it to a TV company. Along with some hew whips, they wanted a "well used" whip. It took some convincing to let it go though.
I don't have any good pics of it anymore - but it is the darker of the 3 whips in these pics. It was only 6 months old at that point!
