Give a shave to your hat?

Post by Nicolas Jones »

Hello,

In a way to improve the look of my hat, I used my electrical razor on my felt hat: It has cut the hair which raized above...

I have to say that the general aspect of the felt was then much better...

What do you think of that?

Actually, this has been done by members before. I seem to remember a member getting a fuzzy HJ that looked more like a pimp hat that an Indy hat. After he shaved it, it was beautiful. Buy, I have also heard of hatters doing this as well, though they use a regular razor not an electric.

Doesn't the shaving cream stain the hat?

This is an old-time hatters process. The hat factories used to have employees that would do nothing all day except take the pounced hat bodies and shave them to a really smooth finish with a sharp knife.
