Dear all,

I’ve had an idea bouncing forth and back in my mind for a while and can finally (and proudly) announce that we will offer a limited edition of the leather jacket seen in the concept arts of Jim Steranko. Each jacket will come with a numbered COA and will be made to your measurements using high end semi anilin tanned hides.

It tickles me to death that our good friend Peter is willing to not only help us out, but to actually make these jackets for Adventurebilt, especially considering how Peter is up to his behind in alligators with other projects.

This thread is to determine, if there’s enough interest to actually get this limited edition project off the ground and I’m looking forward to reading your feedback.

What's the color. In one of thoes it looks black.

I've always thought that it would be cool if someone did a costume based on these drawings.

IMO, that jacket in those pictures looks very similar to the jacket Fedora had in LC, except shorter and with buttons instead of a zip.

Hmm. Trying to get my head around this. So, I guess this would be like owning a replica car based on drawings of a concept car that was probably never built, as opposed to a replica based on photographs and written accounts of the resulting production model.

Obtaining and wearing something that resembles what I see on screen is what drives me and I assume the majority of gearheads. I applaud your imagination for investigating this direction, but I'd be a little cautious, as I think this is a jacket that would have limited appeal, attracting only the ultra-hardcore gearheads to whom money and wardrobe space is no object.

BTW, that collar is hard to work out. Is it intended to resemble a knotch lapel as seen on a suit jacket - in which case I believe it belongs on a suit jacket, not to mention the zip would have to be really short. Or is it meant to be like the movie jackets just with huge storm flaps on both sides?

As a kid 25 years ago I preferred this illustrated jacket. I also thought Indy should smoke back then - period accurate. Enough said. Still like the jacket as a basic bit of design work. Is it period accurate?

Essentially, the 'carcoat length' jacket you just described was the one 'Fedora' wore at the beginning of LC, less the belt.

Well, in a way this project would resemble the line of Star Wars toys that are in Disney parks (at least) which are action figures based on conceptual drawings of the characters. Maybe AB took some inspiration from there?

So, what should the back look like? I think it should have the larger yoke and sewn up sides just like the TOD jacket. No pleats. Looks like there are no straps either on the illustrations.

Peter had it right - it is a James Dean jacket, all the way...

Hmm. That would make this jacket era accurate for 1957? Perfect KOTCS jacket, if era accurate is important.

I think this sort of jacket would look good on a guy with a good physique, wide shoulders, narrow waist. That leaves us out Michaelson!! Gravity and age........ Fedora

True, old friend. That's why your new logo works so well for me. It's a definite reflection of the current shape of my torso.

I would be interested. I have always loved the look of that jacket. I would like to know an estimated cost as well as a time frame of when this jacket design might be ready so we could actually place orders. If it is a limited offer jacket then I just need to make sure the money is saved up, measurements are accurate, and all other misc info is in order so i dont miss out to get the jacket when you are ready for orders.

Not necessarily so! Even those of us with the physique that you've described have trouble with the jacket since it's now being cut to accomodate... how should I say... "wider" range of people?

Bell bottoms on a jacket just isn't right!

Maybe if Marc and Peter work on this new proposed jacket idea, they could iron out some of those kinks so that these jackets might be fitted the way a James Dean jacket would be? ...Or concept-Indy for that matter!

Out of curiousity, was there enough 'interest' in this project?

Come to think of it, the jacket in those Steranko paintings looks very similar to the jacket that Snake Plisken wears in Escape from NewYork.
If i could own both Indys original jacket and Snake Pliskens at the same time
ive would be very interrested
