Hat Sizing - Need to be perfectly accurate?

Post by IndianaSolo »

Hiya Fellas

I just had a question regarding measuring the hat size.
My noggin is between 22 1/2 and 22 3/4 inches. This leaves me with a size 57 or 58. Since I'm planning to get an AB and want the best out of the custom hat, is there a big difference between a 57 and a 58? Which size would I be safer to get in the long run?

Thanks

I'd go with the bigger size, just in case it shrinks ;)

Since you're getting an AB, there is no need to guess.
Just let him know your measurements. If you order
a Federation to hold you over (like I did)
then it's a different story

I'm the exact same as you (same measurements). I always order a little larger than my normal size (including my AB). This allows it to fit when my hair gets a little long. Plus, my head tends to swell when the weather gets warmer. By getting a little larger hat, it is not tight during the warmer months (which is typically about 10-months of the year here in Texas). To compensate for any wiggle room, I place tenon cork used for clarinets between the sweatband and body. Some place felt between the sweat and body, but I've never liked the feel of it.
