I figure that some of us wear hats everyday. When not wearing it, where do you keep it?
Do you leave it flat on the shelf?
Do You put it on a hat stand?(similar to the one on Hatsdirect)
Do you hang it off of a hook?
Do you put it in the box? (May take long after coming home from a hard day)

Which method would be best suited for storing the hat for daily wear without causing taper?

I said "hat stand" mainly because you chose the phrase "daily wear" in you question. The complete answer would be, I do all except putting it flat on a shelf.

Which ever hats are in my current daily rotation sit on a hat stand.
My two beaters hang on a coat rack hook.
Those not in current rotation are tucked away nice and snug in their boxes.

So, that's the long answer. :D

hat stand, mostly.

Where ever I decide to put it. Mostly it just sits on my dresser. Hats I am not wearing are in the boxes they came in.

I just ordered a hat stand from Todd's, so I'll try it out. Right now the hat rests on my desk lamp.

I usually come home and put it on my son or daughters head, and they run around crazy with it for awhile, then I set it on a shelf or dresser, with the front of the brim hanging over the edge.

Nah the lamp is there specifically to hold the hat.

Although I felt much better about it when the hat was my dp, now that its my AB I felt it was time to upgrade to a real hat stand.

I keep it on the shelf, but not flat on a shelf (except for my snap-brims, which get snapped up all the way 'round). Anything where the front of the brim curls down hangs off the edge of the shelf.

I always place it crown down no matter where I put it. This helps to prevent taper and has even created reverse taper on some of my lids.

Best regards,

What do you mean "When not wearing it"? I sleep and shower in mine.

Actually, when at work I hang it on my vintage coat rack. At home I place it in a hat rack I got from a western wear shop. It is wire and holds the hat upside down and off the crown. The hats that I am not wearing are kept in their boxes.

Mine sits on a shelf, but the brim overlaps the edge.

I´m keeping my AB in a stovepipe hat made out of fire proof board
cause I need it nearly every day. My Fed. Deluxe in a hat box, like all my other hats.

I used to own a Peters Brothers fedora... when I sold it, I kept the excellent PB box. I've stored my Fed and HJ's in it until recently, when my AB rabbit moved in...

Coat/Hat Rack: Daily wear lid.

My formal wear Homburg stays in its box as I only wear it about 3 times a year.

Stand in closet: Hats not currently in rotation.

Dork Pac: Under the lid of some garbage can. (channeling Ren here!)

on a hat rack - looks more natural to me, and it's easy to do. :junior: -M

Mine goes on the top of a coat rack, a hook, or on my bedpost - what ever is free of other stuff.

I put them upside down on a shelf! But, I put the ones I never wear on the bottom, so they take the most weight on their crowns. I stack them in piles of 3 - in the stack I have a hat from my great grandpa that's too big, a vintage Dobbs that I wear every once in a while (great hat!) and then my rabbit AB.

I have another stack of hats, but I never wear those... I don't know why I still have them! Maybe I should invest in a few hat stands??

I'm relying on hat stands from Todd's for now. I would like to use a coat rack, but I am not in possession of one at the moment.

For those who put their hats on a rack, and have done so far a while, since we're talking about daily wear do you notice any distortions in the felt from hanging it on a rack?

Don't know about that I don't put my hats on hooks, but the hat stand is starting to look mighty tempting. Cheap and easy way to store a hat without doing any damage. :-k

The thing about hat stands is that they take up too much space. Im gonna have 4 hats and not enough shelf space. A hat rack can take care of the space problem but if it damages the hat, Id rather stack them.

I'd be interested in hearing from Steve or Marc on this one.

Any thoughts, guys?

I always put it away with a "Hat Jack" in it to keep the leather band from shrinking over time and hence losing a size.

Is that the hat stretcher? I was wondering what the purpose of those was. Do they really lose a size that easily?

Aeris, that is a great hat stand. i have the small voice activated yoda. too small for my DP though...can't wait for my magnoli.

I usually store them in the box unless I'm wearing it daily. Then I keep it on top of the box ready to wear.

Will it lose shape at all if you keep it in the box for awhile?

In the spirit of Yoda.

On the sweatband must you hang the hat that happening to prevent.

My hat if I'm likely to wear on a hook I hang. The hat into its box I put if in storage for more than a day it is to be. On top of the box goes the hat if worn today it was. Brim up the hat must be placed.

Mine sits on a shelf with the front of the brim hanging over the edge so the brim doesn't get flat.

Upside down on a shelf. I don't want any premature taper.

So, upside-down in a box is probably safe, correct?
