Ignoring the link above, and a little help with google and some friends
We've found that Christy's is a London hat company like HJ is.
http://www.christys-hats.com/viewfurfelts.php
It's a made to order so that could be why we haven't seen these around much.

The website in the first post says they have them in stock to order. It looks like the wool christys is even more SA than the wool DP.

After reading the tread Mulceber posted, it looks like this hat company is a little "shaddy"?
Why would they need to put pictures of AB's stuff on there site if they make the hats themselves? I mean just get a digicam... Secondly they photoshopped "their" hat which looks like a raider's on to harrison ford's head from Last Crusade....(bad job too).
So I'm not sure about this. I do like the prices though. Anybody actually buy from them?

Yeah, I definitely think this company isn't on the up and up. It might be interesting to see what hat they can provide (or even if they can provide), but just bear in mind that it's a risk. :junior: -IJ

I don't know, but the hat touted as the "Indiana Jones Lucasfilm Fur Felt Fedora Hat" looks EXACTLY like the cheapo hat I got at Disney World years ago. I got my hat out of the closet and the Indiana Jones pin on the ribbon are identical.
Buyers beware.

I would not make such a comment up here, before you see what Christy's has to say. For all we know we might just have found the cheaper HJ close enough
Oh and in case you havent read any part of this forum yet... The lucasfilm fedora is the official hat. As in the licensed fedora.

Heh I hope your right
What's funny is, they have the wool felt fedora which they say comes as an open crown...and i think as we all know wool bashing isn't that easy...heck im not sure if it's possible. Right?
Hmm I'm actually checking the site now..and I think there updating it as I'm typing this...there adding new photos.

Isn't this the German site that was selling open crown Herbert Johnson hats 2 years ago?

I know this might sound like a stupid question but i never realized why the wool fedoras are so much cheaper than the fer felt! can anyone tell me why?

by Indywanabe91
And has Anyone purchased this hat yet in wool? and or fur?
Posted: Sat Mar 01, 2008 12:42 pm
by Mulceber
Because wool felt is so much lower-quality than fur felt - it'll pretty much taper the first time you take it into a rain storm. :junior: -M

I think it was because there is more fur on a sheep than a rabbit. Excluding the rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail

haha
is that the only reason? so there is no extra added to the fur or something?

Is it just me being confused or is wool also a type of fur?
Posted: Sat Mar 01, 2008 4:15 pm
by Nameless_One
Wikipedia says :
Wool is the fiber derived from the fur of animals of the Caprinae family, principally sheep, but the hair of certain species of other mammals such as goats, llamas and rabbits may also be called wool.
I was going to say about the same thing, but decided to double check. Fur is from animals that aren't sheep, like beaver or something...and im just going out on a limb here (or a branch?) and say other types of fur aside from the sheep's fur have extra oils "built in" that add texture and strength to the felt.

isnt it possible that you could just put a waterproof coating on the hat to make it water proof? so wat would make it so much better?
Posted: Sun Mar 02, 2008 2:42 am
by Mulceber
Yes, like any hat you could waterproof it, but that only lasts so long. Generally, wool felt fedoras are disposable hats since they are extremely difficult to reblock/reshape. :junior: -M

These guys are on the money. Wool has different properties than fur that predisposes it to shrinking, very, very badly. That's why wool garments tend to be dry-clean only. They'll felt right up if they get wet. Wool felt hats are just cheaply made. I'm guess that the the felt is stretched something fierce when they're made and the moment they get damp they just want to shrink back up to their original yardage.
I don't think you could sufficiently waterproof one to prevent shrinkage... make it a little more resistant, maybe, but not prevent it.

the website provided in the original post is only for the distributor for the hat and not the supplier. The hat is made my Christy which uses rabbit fur. They happen to also have a wool model, and the DP and HJ models. As for quality, it's difficult to tell, All I know is that for the price of a christy hat you'd still be better off with a Fed. Dlx. as this hat has great reviews (right under the AB of course
)

http://www.themovieshop.com/index.asp and
http://www.indianajoneshat.co.uk/index.htm are not the same site........ but they may be run by the same people
but still, advertising hats like AB without permision....thats a big no-no.

THE FED Deluxe is too tall. This hat has a 5 1/4 crown, the fed deluxe 6''.

I contacted Christy's about where I could buy their fedoras and they said:
You are able to buy the Adventurer hat from our registered on line retailer at
www.hornetshats.com
I just replied to their email asking them if the two named sites above are registered to sell and advertise their hats. I will post their response when I receive it.

The hat isn't designed to be an indy hat. It's open crown and you make it into one. Yes the size is more SA but since this company works from London, how would it compare to Akubra in terms of Durability and quality?

5 1/2" in my size...a 56 cm. They go up as head size go up.

Christie's a gentlemen's dress hat company. Akubra is an outdoorsman's hat co. Which one do YOU think would be more durable in terms of day to day outside use?

I like the look of the Christie's on the the mvoieshop page. It has a really neat crest and the hat looks fine. Hmmm, maybe I should try one...

Mmm...I'm reading this while sitting in a hotel near Kew Green in London and I'm heading back to Manchester tomorrow which will take me past Kensington on the tube. If I escape from work early enough it's very tempting to pop in to Hornets and have a look.
Must try and resist though, my AB Dlx will be ready soon!
