Hey all,

This is my latest Raiders whip. It went to Australia, my first over there! Jon just received it, and he is very happy with it. He basically wanted a whip based on the documented Raiders whip discussed elsewere, with a few extra specs he provided me with.

Hope you like it. Jon is a new member here, so maybe he'll add a comment about it.

Regards,

Bernardo

Well, what can I say other than this whip is absolutely perfect. It looks even better in real life. When I'm holding it in my hands I can't believe it - it looks exactly like the whip from Raiders. I have seen many many good whips over the years, and Bernardo's is every bit as good or better than the best I have seen.

I will try eventually to get a photo of it here, but this will take a while probably. I also have a Morgan, so I will photograph both.

It cracks easily and loudly and is a joy to use. It is now my favorite whip! I saw it sitting coiled on my desk the other day and I walked in, forgetting momentarily that it was there, and stopped in my tracks, amazed by how authentic and good it looked. Up close it is fantastic too - very neat and tight plaiting, and excellent leather.

Bernardo is a wonderful person to communicate with. His whip is exactly what I wanted and even excelled what I was hoping for. I can see that Bernardo is going to be (if he isn't already) a famous maker. Sorry if this post sounds a bit adulatory but I can't help it. Bernardo deserves it!

Thank you Bernardo.

Absolutely beautiful Bernardo! I've been eying your work for some time now. I'm definitely thinking that when I have the resources (probably in another year) I'll buy a whip just like that in Kip. :junior: -M

An Australian buying an kangaroo hide American style bullwhip from a whipmaker in Peru, That’s a classic!

Congratulations JMObi, That’s a beautiful bullwhip. I can tell you first hand the quality of Bernardo’s work and customer service, Its top of the line. Seeing your new whip makes me even more anxious to get mine from him, though I am just glad that Australian customs was more careful with your whip, then the U.S. inspectors where with mine!

It is the regular Del Carpio Whips "Raiders" model.

Bernardo can make alterations to the general specs if you ask him. Have a look at his website for more information. Price was US$480, plus postage.

The thong is 24mm just at the ring knot. As far as I knew, and know now, it is as close as possible to get to SA amongst the current makers, though that is personal opinion I guess.

Hi Dan, yes, the classic nature of that situation did not escape me, either :)

In a way it is kind of fitting to buy a whip from South America, given the classic shot of HF by the waterfall. The Australian makers are excellent, don't get me wrong, but I thought in this instance, of screen accuracy, Bernardo was hard to beat.

Incredible work again Bernardo! I have been looking sadly at my new DelCarpio sitting unused because of the c****y weather we have been having. I keep telling myself, spring is coming...

That's a great looking whip. Is it my imagination, or is the turkshead slightly lighter in colour? I like how it looks. A special request?

Thank you guys for the kind words! :-)

Jon,

Your words left me speachless! As far as reviews go, I can't really hope for anything better. Thank you. If you don't mind, I'll post it on my website.

Satipo,

The lace of the turk's head knot is indeed slightly lighter. You see, the lace used for knots does not need braiding soap. Braiding soap darkens the leather. It follows, if you use the same skin for the thong and knots, the knots will be a bit lighter. For the ring knot I used a darker skin, as per Jon's request.

Regards,

Bernardo
