Got a Todd's Standard - too small? ***New pics!***

Post by Ken-Obi Wanabi »

I ordered all the leather pieces of the costume from Todd's Costumes. I'm very impressed, especially considering the price. However, I think I ordered the jacket one size too small. I put ROTLA in and comparing how the jacket fits on me to how Indy's jacket looks, I think Indy's is a bit baggier and it bunches up more. So, I think I need one size larger - let me know what you all think.

Note: The shirt, pants, and shoes aren't what my final costume will be. Also, apparently I didn't tuck my shirt in very well and I closed my eyes for the 2nd pic. Oh well... :)

The bunching up is due to the fact that his is more distressed than yours. The jacket fits you fine, just like mine fits me. :junior: -M

Looks like it fits perfectly to me. Right length, right style. Just like people said before, it's probably the distressing that affects it in ROTLA.

That jacket looks great! Congrats!

That looks exactly how mine fits, too-- I think that for accuracy they are supposed to be comfortably snug, but not tight-- as in the Raven Bar scene. A photo of it zipped up would be helpful.

Got a Todd's Standard - did I order too small?

Post by rrhanselka »

WOW!!!! Give me some sizes. What is your chest size and what is the jacket size? Looks GREAT to me. OOPS, wait a minute. I just went to the door to see the UPS guy delivering my Todd's Standard. I'm a 42" chest and ordered a Medium, but I kind of like it for jeans and a T-shirt.I'm amazed at the quality of the jacket for $150.00. Makes you wonder what they do to make it cost $500.00 in the custom version, huh?

How about a straight forward front shot. I think you wouldn't want the sleeves really longer. You've probably studied them, but here's the arm lengths below. Looks like the difference between M and L is 0.5" while M to S is a full 1". If you want to wet it for some strange reason you could probably get away with a half inch more I suppose?! I think it's ok as is though.

S 32"
M 33"
L 33½"

I think if it was any bigger it'd be WAY too big. As it looks now I think it's even very, very slightly too large in the chest...but I think it's TOTALLY fine as it is.

But ultimately, wear what you feel comfortable in.

Thanks for the replies! Wow - I really thought it was a bit too small, but maybe not. After watching a bunch of scenes from ROTLA, it looked like the sleeve length was correct if the sleeve looked more bunched up. Also, how cinched are the side straps supposed to be?

I'll take some more pics and post them after work. I have to send the gunbelt back to Todd's anyway because I definitely ordered it a bit too small. I didn't think about the fact that it should be bigger than the belt size I normally wear.

I am VERY pleased with the jacket - Todd's shop does nice work!

Only cinch the side straps enough to keep the action pleats from gapping open and the sides closed.

Those straps are installed for that adjustment, and were NEVER intended to be used for 'sizing'. Pulling them to tight is why folks have had them rip out of the seam.

Ken,

I agree, I don't think you can get a better fit off-the-rack. You wouldn't want the sleeves any longer, believe me. When they're too long you fiddle with them all the time trying to scoot them up.

The more you wear it the better you'll like it. The leather will relax and hang better. It will crease and soften and begin to take your shape. Give it a few weeks - you won't part with it.

This answers my question about the Todd's. I am going to buy one. I was wanting a leather jacket to wear around and why not get an Indyesqe one to boot?

I'm finding very quickly that hanging around here gets you from wanting just a fedora to wanting the entire look. haha

The jacket fit looks really good. I was considering a Todd's and think your pictures are some of the most convincing as to the look of the jacket, wear it and enjoy.
I noticed the belt looked a bit tight in your first set of pictures. I just got my gunbelt from Todd's last week and had the same problem. Todd's site says to order by your normal waist size, I did so but had to use the very last belt setting. The belt had no room to hang. I sent it back and the replacement arrived a much better size larger. It may help to specify the actual length you need.
Again nice jacket, enjoy it.

off topic but what brand bag is that? and no, the jacket doesn't look that small. Indy's is sort of slimmer for the most part too.

P.S. If you don't like it zipped up.. leave it unzipped.

As I said before, I think it fits you quite good :-k

I had forgotten about the rules on posting pics - sorry about that! I edited my post above to show links to the pics instead.

I purchased the bag from What Price Glory. It's an original, not a reproduction. I want to take a little bit of bleach to it to take some of the green out and make it look a little more weathered but I haven't gotten that far yet.

I know the jacket will fit better as I lose more weight. I am headed in the right direction, which is down. :) I'm just not there yet. If that's all it is as far as why I don't think the jacket fits me right, then I'll just accelerate my weight loss program! If the jacket will fit once I'm fit (pun intended), that's more motivation.

Thanks for the comments - keep them coming. And for anybody on the fence about getting one of these jackets, I certainly am impressed with mine and with the customer service from Todd!

Yeah - I got confused by that as well. I ordered both belts in my normal size, but the gunbelt just doesn't fit right. After doing some more searching, I discovered that it's recommended to get the gunbelt in your normal belt size +4. I emailed Todd and they told me it wasn't a problem to exchange it so I'm going to send it back soon.

Ok, WPG. I do think that would be motivation to accelerate the program! It may be good that you're dissatisfied with the fit as is?
