Anyone with Matt Welsby whips?

Greetings everyone! I'm new here, and I have to say that I am very impressed that so many of you plait your own whips and that they end up looking great!
I was wondering if anyone else owned a Matt Welsby whip. He has a style called the "Indy Cobra" which is what I currently use--I don't know if he's still even in business, his site says it was last updated in 1999! Here's a link:

I've been curious about him too. It's strange that the site hasn't been updated in nearly 10 years but it's still up which means he is paying the domain fees, but not active. Odd.

If it gives you any idea,
I emailed him back in 1999 to buy my first whip,
and he never responded....back then....

Matt was the first Australian whip maker I ever knew many years back and I thought he did very good work, especially back then.
Unfortunately he ran into some pretty serious problems with some of his customers several years back that turned pretty nasty. I won’t go into details but as a result he was pretty much excommunicated from much of the whip cracking and whip making communities. After that he basically disappeared off the Internet, I never heard from him again, he hasnt updated his site since. I don’t know if he still makes whips to order or not. Just by coincidence however I met his son last year, who is also a whip maker. I still occasionally keep in contact with him.

I personally would advise to stay away from Matt. I ordered a 10 footer a long time ago - sent payment and once he had my money he stopped returning emails and calls.
I had given up on him, but by coincidence 6 years ago ran into an Aussie -- we got to know each other and I asked the stupid question one day if he knew of a whip maker named Matt. HE DID!!!! He was returning to Australia and promised me he would set Matt straight and he did that too. 2 months after this guy went back to Australia I got a call out of the blue from Matt himself. He told me he was sending out the whip and apologized for the (3 year) delay. I managed to get the whip - it's a 16 plait 10 footer indy style...but I don't crack it that much....In fact if anyone is interested I'd let it go....I've only cracked it a dozen times. I would totally take offers.
Cheers
Nick

But would you take the payment and then send us the whip 3 years later?
That's a shame about Matt. My dad and I got my Indy Cobra and a Redbull whip from him about eight or nine years ago with no problems.

True - it's a nicely plaited whip - just with all the stuff that went with getting it doesn't make it a favourite of mine.

Your lucky you eventually got your whip Nick, a lot of people never did hence the problem.
I actually wouldn’t mind taking a look at it , Do you have any pictures of the bullwhip?

Thanks for posting those pictures Nick.
Even though I’m not crazy about the handle design, it’s not a bad looking bullwhip. I like the dark Indy Bullwhip that you have for comparison better though
. Is that one of Joe Strains WSP models?

It sure is and they are a favourite of mine.
I am more at home with a 12 plait.
