I join the ranks of the waiting

Post by IndigoJuliet »

Order went in for a Magnoli HJ on Firday, so I join the ranks of those waiting for their first Fedora. Once this one has arrived and the dust settled it will be on to the AB Deluxe in Beaver..

I could have opted for a SAB as I live in London but due to recommendations on the board I have gone with the Magnoli for my first hat.

Let the wait begin...
( good practise for my AB  )

Be sure to post pics if you can, IJ. I'd be most interested to see the Magnoli HJ as I'd like to order one if a few months as well.

No hard feelings. Glad you could laugh at it. I think everyone had made a typo like that at one time or another.

Excellent, IndigoJuliet! Last month, I too ordered a Magnoli HJ! Can't wait for it to arrive! You have to try and forget you ordered it...some months go by and then BAM, there it is at your door. =) They say a watched teapot never boils. In the case of the Magnoli HJ, I can't keep my eyes off the teapot, which basically makes the wait THAT much longer...ugh.

This is your first fedora, eh? Very cool. TECHNICALLY, it's not my first, but since the ones before this were wool (and one fur felt trilby), I still consider this to be my first REAL fedora. Can't wait to see pictures once you get it!

Take care!

That's great advice, and worth highlighting but sadly the following is true too

Oh no, IndigoJuliet!! A travesty! Consider one of the new Federations (reblocked, new ribbon, new dimensional brim cut, etc). They're going to be available for pre-order in a little over a week (or so the rumblings say) and the hats are reported to have lead times of four to six weeks. If you're anxious for a hat, that seems to be the way to go. (It's what I did while waiting for my Magnoli HJ.) Good luck!

Are you wanting this particular hat before Indy 4 comes out? If I remember correctly, Magnoli said it would take about three months if he had to order new sizes from the UK. If you have a hat that will make do for the film (Federation, etc), then maybe it's worth the wait for the Magnoli HJ. Otherwise, I guess go with the PeterBros. I can understand wanting something before the film comes out. I ordered the IM/HJ and then a Fed just in case the HJ didn't arrive in time for the film. As it turns out, the IM/HJ is going to arrive LONG before the Federation! Go figure!

Ok the race is on
1. HJ from Magnoli has roughly another 4-5 weeks or somehting like that.
2. Trouses from Magnoli have about another 4 weeks to arrive.
3. Indy Shirt from Wested has about 3 weeks to arrive as they cannot keep them on the shelf, esp in my size..
April or the beginning of May looks like christmas...

#### all this waiting... but t will be worth it I am sure.
Add to that I will be lining up for a custom jacket from Wested, which I saw hides for this weekend gone. (droooollll.... ) Why cannot i not pick a hobby that is not A. not expensive (helicopters keep you broke) or B. requires waiting....

We all feel for you...it sometimes just makes you crazy. :( But the wait is worth it when you hold the hat in your hands, then place it on your head and start snapping the pics for everyone here to share.

My bet is you won't end up with only 2 hats, even though you say that's it.

Just like everything else in life, I skipped practice, jumped right in the deep end, and ordered a custom KotCS AB last week. I'm really nervous about the size, as it's not only my first Indy hat, but my first ever custom hat, so hopefully I didn't mess things up. What's the worst that can happen? I further restrict the bloodflow to my brain? :)

The wait WILL kill me. Heck, the wait for my Wested back in '01 almost killed me, and I have a feeling this will be longer...a lot longer.... but I don't mind. I'm just happy to get one.

I hope you enjoy your hat Indigo, when it finally arrives. Please post pics of it when it does... I love looking at pictures of the gear, and I doubt I'm alone.

I ordered my mag HJ on 4/8, with any luck, I may have gotten in under the wire before they went temporarily out of stock. [crosses fingers]. Doesnt sound like it will be on my head before the film comes out though, but I can always hope. Theres likely going to a Keppler in my future as well, and Im seriously considering getting the AB order before memorial day, just to make it an even...3

Hey Chimp,

I had the same worries about sizing. I took plastic ring sizers as an example and cut several 1 inch "sweatbands" out of stiff cardboard - from a FedEx letter pack. I then used packing tape to join the bands into measured 23", 59cm, 23 1/2, and 60cm rings. I then tried them on and took pictures. The 60cm basically sat on my ears - it was just too big. I sent the three best pictures to Steve.

I probably should have gone with wider than 1 inch and stayed with the English system and done 23, 23 1/8, 23 1/4, 23 3/8, and 23 1/2.

I did downsize the pictures and saved as lower resolution jpegs so as not to unnecessarily fill Steve's inbox. He was very prompt and responded within 24 hours with a recommendation.

Matt
