I've been scowering the forum to try and find a turtoial on disstressing my indy jacket. I did find the "MK's place" arcived information but it's quite vague on the exact steps. I have purchaes acetone, fullers moon powder and fine sand paper. Any help on where i should start with first would be great. Just need a push in the right direction. Thanks!

I'd say pop in your favorite scene from one of the movies and just start.
Maybe it's also wise to test some of your techniques on hard to see places, like the inside of the pocket flaps, in case you're not happy with the result.

Just remember to take very small steps at a time, because it's very easy to take the distressing too far. You can find some great examples if you use the search function.

One last thing, I think this thread would've been more appropriate in the Gear Care & Distressing forum.

I have a TOD and LC versions in lamb that I just used a palm sander with various grits of sandpaper and water from my garden hose. After sanding, I would rinse the jacket so that the leather was soaked and the lining damp. Then I'd hang it up outside on my clothesline to dry. My TOD looks like it should be thrown out, but that was the "look" I was going for. My LC is less weathered than the TOD. I have had a couple of compliments on the "aged" look of the jacket from people who had no idea that the jacket was "new". I didn't try to copy anything from the films, I just tried to figure where the most likely places on the jacket would age more and sanded accordingly. I also made some blemishes with the sander in random places. I'd stay away from any chemicals.

Lol your deffidently right one posting on that section of the forum Bullitt. I discovered that section in a search after i posed this. I am a little "gun shy" about useing acetone on they jacket, i notice mixed reviews on using heavy chemicals on it. I did try just strait sanding on the inside of the jacket useing 220 grain paper. What i'm not sure on is after sanding in a small area i noticed that it didn't fade the color at all. Was going to try using 91% isopropy to take the shine out of it. Does using water while sanding help with creating a faded look?

yes it will but be carefull with the sandpaper cause when you sand you dont see how hard the sanding goes cause the jacket is wet and appear darker.........I only used hot water treatment without sanding on my rotla jacket to fade away the shine..it gave it a great look.

now I only intend to let it distress naturelly.I balled the jacket up and let it dry for 2 hours in a corner.....after that I let it dry falt on the floor next to my fireplace........it looks great now!!

Did the hot water shrink your jacket any?
do you have any pictures of your jacket after the hot water treatment?

yes i was iffy on the hot water treatment aswell just because my jacket fits perfictly now i'd hate to have it shrink to the point where i can't wear it. Holt did you just fill a bath tub of hot water and soak your jacket or did you apply it via towel or some other meants?

my camera has service on it so I cant take any pictures...

uhmm...no I dont think my jacket shrunk?it doesn't feel like it.I held it under a warm shower.

I zipped the jacket and soaked it,I squized out all the overexsisitng water and let it dry on the floor next to my fireplace...

Hot water shrunk my 1st lambskin Wested by a full size easy. Use COLD water, wad it up in a little ball, and then throw it in the corner and leave it until it's dry. See this thread

Both jackets were 44R, and almost identical in size. See what happened to the one I used hot water on.

you say both jackets are 44r
one standard and one special rotla...

how different are they from eachother..like in the armholes. arm width? and shoulders?

I have just ordered my final westeds.(I think?) one 44 goat standard with special job on it and one 44 special rotla jacket

I neede one size bigger.the 42 special rotla goes like a thin summer jacket with a t-shirt under it...thats why I got new jackets
