Here's my Fed:

It's almost 5 years old now, so the way it looks is natural wear and tear... although not everyday.

As far as color, film accuracy can change a bit from scene to scene, with regards to lighting etc. Myan temple hat looks a bit darker imho than the brightly lit soc scenes but it could just be the dirt.
Screen accuracy and real life accuracy are two different things.
So there is no one best choice. If I am not mistaken the Deluxe may be a bit darker than it used to be based on pics posted recently.
Do a search on this site, compare to a few screen shots of the scene YOU like and get that hat!

I had read this too, about the Deluxes being darker now...I emailed Hats Direct last week about this, she said there had been no change in felt-

I darkened my ribbon a little with a couple coats of watered down black liquid shoe polish that I brushed on with an artist's painting brush. After the first coat dried it was almost as if I did not even put it on. The ribbon still is not jet black but a very dark brown. Also, under the ribbon knot foldings, superglue was applied and the ribbon was pressed and held until it was made more flush with the hat itself. I also trimmed the sides about an eighth of an inch. I think the most difficult part to figure out for me was a good way to get a little of the bulge effect on the upper portion of the hat.

This is my Fed Dlx that once belonged to IndyK in Germany. Optimo did the fix-up job back in October (?) and it's been my favorite ever since!

With my AB (left):

Pay no attention to the dates; my camera had an accidental high-speed confrontation with a tile floor, which broke the screen and screwed up the date/clock...:

Thanks for the compliments, Giben. Yeah, I didn't even realize the 1957 connection until you mentioned it. How about that!? With my AB still a touch on the 'big' side and my Fed fitting perfectly, I have to say that I prefer the Fed right now just for wearability. No doubt, the AB felt and construction is better, but my Fed is too stinkin' comfortable! I'm sure my two ABs will get plenty of wear-time when they are both here and fitting properly, but I won't be boxing up the Fed Dlx for along time!

Good lookin' bash! That's pretty darn close to KotCS, especially for being done well before the first pics of that hat came out. I wonder if Steve will share the credit with you!
