Action pleat depth and back panel width

I'm getting ready to order a new goatskin Wested but need some advice on the action pleat. Someone here (I can't remember who) stated that the action pleats should be at least 1 1/2" deep or deeper in order to keep it closed. However, the action pleats on my current lambskin Wested are 2" deep and they never stay closed (except when I hang it up). Would extending the back panel to the edge of the sleeve seam solve this or is there another solution?

I just received a new Wested in the authenic lamb. The pleats are 1 1/2 deep, and this is an inch deeper than the ones on both of my older jackets. On this jacket, this was a "fix" for me. This new one stays closed when it is supposed to and opens up at the right time. I love it. But, this is with the jacket unzipped. I never wear my jacket zipped. It sounds like your jacket is ill fitting to me.

It's not so much about depth as much as the discussion about elastic in the pleats. Just an FYI if you hadn't seen it.

I think I figured out the problem. The action pleat is not the same depth all the way down. I took the measurement towards the bottom. However, near the top, where it stays open the most, it is not as deep. I believe that if it were the same depth all the way down it would stay closed better. The jacket fits fine otherwise.
