Anybody check out Wested lately?

Bags, Boots, Shirts and all other gear should be discussed here.

Anybody check out Wested lately?

Post by Mississippi Jones »

I just visited the Wested website. They're now offering a complete Jacket, shirt, and trouser set on sale. I knew they did this before, but I think as a whole set, they've reduced the price. They also have a model wearing the whole gear. I like their trousers! They look nice.

That is a pretty nice offer, since that would give you the essentials pretty much there for 200 British Pounds. :o Not bad, I am not interested in off the rack jackets, but for those who do and need a pair of pants and shirt, that looks awful tempting. Must be trying to gear up things for the new movie coming out.

Yea it is. I don't know if it's just me, but their shirts look a little too white. I'm a Magnoli fan myself, but I'd settle for Wested if I needed to after seeing their shirt and pants combo.

Ya actually the wested shirt in person is not that white as in that photo, it could be a bit washed out. At least mine is not that white, I really am looking forward to the shirts Marc has had, I think i might get me one of those. :D The wested is nice though, I really like the color, which is way off in the picture on the site.

The shirts are almost done he said he said he had to get them from the local sewer. Its in a couple posts down, he said the shirts should be available soon, but not before a revamp of the http://www.adventurebilt.com website.

"Where else shall I find a new screen-accurate shirt so close to Magnoli's level?"

"Try the local sewer."

Sorry, couldn't resist. :P :junior: -IJ

...Thats me in fact :D

I made a series of photos for Peter and the shirt in particular is very difficult to show with its true color since it changes according to light conditions. The ones I've made in the studio is slightly different in color from how I see them in everyday conditions, where they appear a little more yellow.

Peter still uses a few "greenish" looking photos on his site, but I hope he will replace them with the new ones when time permits. Untill then they can be seen here: http://kentbovin.com/Wested%20shirt.htm

Wow IndyK! That's a good looking shirt! So that's you? Ha! That's AWESOME! I've been considering a Wested as well as a Magnoli. How do you think a Wested would hold up as far as everyday use? I'm still concerned about the sizes. I have a 39" chest and I'm 5'10". I don't know if I need a small or a medium. What size do you have?

Well, its me in the garden wearing all the gear, my wife shot the photos. The studio pics are with a model and I shot the photos :D

I can tell You that my own Wested shirt has been in my line of everydayuse for a couple of years now and I have never had any trouble with it. I have seen COW-members complain about loose buttons, but mine are still attached with the same thread as the day I bought it. Only sign of use in fact is a slightly lighter appearance due to all the times it has been washed, which is at least 50+
Compared to my NH, that I spare for those special occasions, the Wested is more durable and a little thicker in the fabric.
I dont know about Your size (I'm european...) but I use a regular size 42 Wested jacket and my shirt is a regular XL. They both fit perfectly in all matters.

Hrm...

I was thinking about getting a Todd's Standard, and then doing more research before I went for a Wested.

Are the Wested shirt and pants accurate enough to be an "end game" set? Or would they be more or less a starting point, similar to the Todd's Standard?

I guess that depends on how much SA means to You. The Wested pants are all I will ever need, but the shirt, being one of my favorite pieces of gear, will always be an item I will buy more of.
As far as I know the shirt from Todd's is a WPG, and they are not my taste to put it mildly. The fit is way too roomy for me. In fact mine has been for sale for a while now :D

I'm looking forward to receive Marc's shirt in near future, but the new KOTCS-shirt looks more durable than most others so far, so I also hope someone will take up a production of more durable CS-shirts when we get to know the specs.

I have a 40 inch chest and the Small Wested shirt fits nicely in the chest, arms are a little long for me... but I and short!

You may want to got to the medium to give you a little more length in the arms.

Yea, it's the arm length that I'm worried about. I'm afraid a small will fit perfectly in the chest, but the sleeves might be too short. A medium might have the sleeves long enough, but might be too baggy in the chest. Sigh...decisions, decisions. That's why I was thinking about Magnoli, because then I'd know without a doubt that the shirt would fit.

This odd, the wested Medium fits perfect on me, arm length, etc. The shirt is not like extremely tight, but tight enough. I have longer arms I guess than most short people.

Indy K, that is some pretty nice gear you have in those pictures on the Wested site. I can't believe that is you, nice gear. I love the wested shirt, I have not washed it 50+ times yet  As for KOTCS, people keep saying the material looks like what wested offers, I have heard people saying that Western Costumes made the shirts, though I guess that could be unofficial till the movie is released. I am looking forward to getting an adventurebilt from Marc though, looks real SA to Raiders.

I have both a Wested shirt and Magnoli's. The materials and fit are completely different. I think the Magnoli does it for looks but the Wested is a far more durable/washable item of clothing. It always goes in my bag for a trip away.

I have the Wested pants and shirt, as well as a Magnoli shirt. I love the pants, wear them all the time. I found my Wested shirt to be of a much lighter, thinner fabric than the Magnoli, and I worry it wont hold up as well, although I haven't had either long enough to see how well they endure.

The Wested is also a lighter color than Magnoli's, but I like the color of both very much.

My Magnoli fits me perfectly (as would be expected). My Wested is a medium, and it fits great in the neck, sleeves, and body length, but I am slender, so it is baggy in the body width, and the armholes are a bit too wide. I plan to have it tailored soon, but I do really like both shirts.

The Magnoli pockets look more SA to me, the Westeds are too big. The cuffs on the Magnoli are very snug (which to me is screen accurate, but make wearing my watch difficult :) ). I've asked Magnoli to increase my cuff measurements on my next shirt. That's the beauty of custom made.

For my next shirt I would like to have him make me one in white. I think that would look excellent with some lighter tan or olive khaki pants (like Dockers).

Yea, I'm eventually going to get a Magnoli and an AB. I like how you can choose different color pants and shirts to be made. I'm going to do the same!

I am also very fond of the idea that you can have different colours of the shirt and pants. It stops her indoors saying "not another shirt the same colour!!"

Answer to my own question: Trousers are not tapered and only come in the one colour.

Really mine taper down a bit toward the bottom. I guess you could order come custom pants from wested. What did Peter say about the pants? I love the wested pants, they are just great. Mine come down to my Aldens on the 3rd shoe string holes. Maybe they were not tapered to begin with, i don't recall. :-k After the tailor got done with my pants, they seemed tapered a bit. Tell us anymore info you found out about the wested pants, maybe I should ask for some custom pants next time around.

Wested pants are somewhat tapered. The effect is more pronounced the longer your legs are. They may start off looser in the butt and thigh, I'm not sure.

ALL of the pants have to be tapered to a certain extent. Unless you have elephantitis your ankles are probably smaller than yor thighs. :).

Anyway, for short folk like me they are still too loose in the thigh AND at the ankle.

I think they would probably be perfect for someone 5' 8" but too narrow at the ankle for 6 ft.

No matter, for me, I have to go with made to measure for anything like a good fit.
