I work in the security department for a hospital and I got the crazy idea to create an "Indy" look out of my uniform. Our uniform consists of navy blue slacks, a powder blue shirt, black belt and black shoes. I think it would be easy enough to create the look. Thanks to this site, I've found "close-enough" boots with the Rockport Farnums. I have a black web belt with the brass buckle. I found a "close-enough" gunbelt at

and, I'm thinking about purchasing a black whip holder from Whip Artistry Studio to use as a key holder as well as a leather radio holster.

I have a couple of questions, though. How long should the gun belt be when I order? I have a size 32 waist. Also, if I plan to attach the whip holder to the belt, how and where should it be attached?

Get the gunbelt about 6 inches longer than your waist, so it can hang. No reason to have a webbing belt if the gunbelt covers it up, right? I attatched the whip holder to the area of the gunbelt that will go through a belt loop or two (my right hip).

"Alternate Indy Gear" is awesome, I love it when people push the limits of the costume and mix in other stuff that's not related and give it a new twist.

I've replaced a lot of my stone colored shirts and toupe colored pants with different colors and tones with awesome results. I'm now looking at that belt and thinking I could go for black and shades of gray.

Actually, I've always been confused by this. I've seen alotta guys around here wear their gunbelts low like that and yet I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Ford as Indy with the gunbelt hanging way low like taht. Can anyone provide one?

I'd also like to replace my security jacket with one patterned after the Indy jacket. It needs to be navy blue . . . maybe in cotton or even some type of weatherproof material with a zip-out liner for cooler temperatures. Anyone know who I might consider for this type of custom jacket? You guys are such a great resource!

yeah i love the idea of the alternative indy gear. lately i have been working on a complete modern indy gear look.

its actually become my daily wear. a typical days clothes are wrangler ranger cargo pants (carhartts are good to), cabela's amazon ripstop shirts (sadly not made anymore), a outback jackhammer waist length oilskin jacket (or if its a little colder my carhartt detroit jacket), either my indy gun belt or one of the modern nylon strap belts, chippewa boots, and sometimes toped off with my akubra.

most of this stuff can be had easily at a sporting goods store (gi joes and the like), come to think of it you could order just about ALL of it from cabela's

Why not simply go with a black jacket? Or charcoal... I've always loved the look of the Christian Slater Kuffs jacket!

I’ve always been a proponent of the alternate Indy look too. Face, if we wear stone colored shirts and taupe pants everyday we’ll start getting questions. I’ve both LLBean shirts and Cabela’s Safari shirts in 5 or 6 different colors – and about the same for the LLBean pants. It gives you some variety without sacrificing the basic composition of the Indy look. Actually, my primary belt is a Walmart Faded Glory brown belt that I installed a silver buckle instead of the stock gold and added a silver keeper along with the leather one, ala Raiders – essentially it’s the gun belt used in place of the web belt…

I won't lie, I always did like Bernstein's style. If Indiana Jones were to choose his clothes today, I bet it would not be too far off what Bernstein picked as his "uniform" for DFT.

Not getting cable, I had no idea who this guy was. The Wiki article said he did not like the comparisons to Indy, though the image is a little too close for there to be no connection. I was drawn to follow up, mainly because he graduated from one of my school's chief competitors, albeit 20 years after I did. (I went to Riverdale, for you New Yorkers.) Sounds like a very cool person.

I e-mailed JCOE Leather and they are willing to create the belt I want. They went as far as calling their buckle supplier for the buckle and have agreed to add a leather keeper as well. Orvis used to have a "Saratoga Lambskin Leather Jacket" that was a good take on an alternative look, but I don't see it on the website any more.

You can actually have a pair of Alden 405's in black made...I just ordered a pair in all black with white stitching...

I was wearing some serious sun protection yesterday (and today) with my wide brimmed Tilley T-2 natural color cotton hat with green underbrim (the brim is about 3 3/4 inches), when a co-worker called out "Hey Indy!"

I did have the repro MarkVII over my shoulder as a daily bag, and I was carrying a Filson medium size field bag, but the only other Indy gear I had was hidden in my pocket was the pocket knife (a Huberctus Nr. 4109) and the Saville Row glasses in their case inside the Filson.

The pants were blue denim jeans worn with a solid forest green long sleeved shirt.

I guess some folks just are not as pickey about the look as some of us are.

I got my stag handle pocket knife from Indy Magnoli, but I'm not sure if he has any more. Did you try a search engine for that name? The knives that come close are made in Germany. The writing on the blade says: Hubectus, which is underlined by the script of the H, with Solinger below that word. Also on the blade is
