Yo!
We have a similar thread in the Fedora section regarding people making remarks about "The Hat", but have any of you ever had any comments made about "The Jacket"?
I had my first one at work today, bearing in mind I've worn it non stop for nearly a month.
"Hey, had a new jacket? It makes you look like The Fonz!"
THE FONZ????
I replied, "Yeah, but Fonzie thought he was cool. I
am"

No, I can honestly say I can not remember anyone ever saying a thing about my leather jackets to date.

I've always gotten positive comments on my jacket, but now that it's more distressed looking the amount of comments have increased. See the update:

Go figure - the more weathered and beat up the jacket looks, the more people seem to like it.
Only those that know I'm into Indy gear have made "the comment" (usually in the form of singing the "Raiders March") - to everybody else it just looks like a nice leather jacket...

I don't think most people have a caricatured image in their head about what makes an Indy jacket. Thus a leather jacket by itself is just a leather jacket.

That's been my experience so far.....
Which makes the Fonz thing all the more bizarre, imo!

I only "feel" women checking it out (with their eyes
) when I'm in an elevator

Had mine called a "Members Only" jacket once, of course it was a by the stand-up at a comedy show and I was seated at the front/center stageside table.

I get sometimes the comment "hey pilot, what's up with your jacket?"

I had one guy who was not a club member actually call it a wested Indy. He loved it - and I was impressed.

Just two weeks ago, I received a comment from a female friend on the nice jacket I was wearing and how much she liked it.

I remember way back in middle school when I had my first Wested..yeah I got the Fonz joke a lot. I didn't care, I knew it was Indy and I didn't really mind being known as the Fonz, lol

Since I saw Raiders in 1981 I have been wearing my Indy-outfit for every occasion that called for a dress-up; Carnivals, partys etc. and I NEVER met anyone who knew who I was supposed to be untill after the release of LC.
( might be my poor close-enough gear that wasn't close-enough after all...)
After that things cleared up a bit, but I have also been asked a few times if I was supposed to look like Crocodile Dundee!!!!!!?? (Had to beat up those guys very badly...)
So - No. Never met anyone who could recognize an Indy-jacket.
Cheers

Hey "nicktheguy",
Where were you when this took place? I surprised a guy in a local restaurant this exact same way a year or so ago in Stratford, was it you?

a girl at the bank once commented that she really liked my lambskin, but didn't know it was an Indy jacket. When I first got it, tho, it felt like a Fonzie jacket only cuz of the LC collar on the Raiders jacket...altho I got used to it, it felt HUGE like I could fly away in a gust of wind!

I got a compliment from a girl at a club..."Love your jacket." But usually I'm the first to speak up about it cause I'm so vain!
One time I was at another club wearing my Cooper, and I saw this guy carrying a rather suspicious looking jacket over his arm...I INSTANTLY recognized the stitching on it and hurried over to inquire. IT WAS AN EXPEDITION!!! He complimented me on my "eye" and told me he wasnt even aware it was an Indiana Jones model jacket!! He just got it for Christmas from a family member who wasnt even into the Indy thing....Go figure!

I never get comments on my Indiana Jones jackets. I get comments on my A-2’s & G-1’s, but not Indy jackets. However, just 2 days ago someone commented that they liked my jacket (the one below) and asked if it was vintage. I’ll take it.

Doug C is correct, although I’ve never been called special (having “special needs”, yes).

It’s all done with Vaseline on the lens and smoke and mirrors (my girdle is killing me).
