My BCF Fedora

Hey everyone I am fairly new to this place, I registered here a few weeks ago but this is only my second post. Anyway, I was bitten by the Indiana Jones bug a few months ago so while I was out the other day I decided to stop into Burlington Coat Factory to see what kind of hats they had and I ran across this one, it was only $20 so I thought I'd pick it up. I also plan to order a JPD fedora here in a few weeks, which I am really excited about, but I thought this might be a good starter hat for right now.
There is one thing I don't really like about this hat, and that is the sewn edge of the brim. I plan to undo the stitching and straighten it out but I'm afraid if I take the little piece of plastic out of the edge of the brim it will loose that cool sway. So I don't really know what to do, what to do guys think? Thanks!
James

Hey Shane, yes I do happen to own a DeLorean, I am in the first picture with my car. I can honestly say that when you do finally get one, you won't be disappointed. All I can say is that when you finally do get one, be prepared to answer and clear up a lot of misconceptions people have about the car. So Good Luck with your quest, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

That is a sweet car. I had a friend that had one and sold it after it started leaking and the windows stopped working. Has yours ever had any problems along those lines?
And to keep this on topic, I've seen some great things done with those hats, I hope to get one myself when I feel up to reblocking it. I'm also interested in finding out about the brim edge, because I took the plastic piece out and flattened the brim on a wool hat and the brim flopped.

That's a actually a pretty good looking wool felt hat. It's not Indy, but it's not bad either. Sometimes BCF carries some decent fur felt hats with and without bound edges. With a bit of work (makeshift reblock and ribbon change) you can get crazy good results.

Thanks for the compliment! That kind of stinks your friend sold his car, I'm sure with a little elbow work he could have fixed the affected areas. The only real problem I've had with mine is that my clutch line started to leak, after 25 years that plastic tube starts to get brittle.
I'd also really like to flatten the brim out on my hat but I'm afraid if I do, it will droop down on me.

I didn't really think it was a bad hat, not screen accurate or anything but that's OK. I just wish that BCF sold one without the bound edge.

Yeah, you know what happens when you go 88mph? You get a speeding ticket!!!

Thanks for the welcome and the compliment!
Well it's time for another hat question, how would it be possible for me to give the front of the crown a tighter pinch? Also how should I go about trying to fix the top of the hat? Instead of how it looks now, I really want it to look more like how it did in the movies. Thanks!

There's a reblocking thread near the top here, follow the link in that to get to a decent tutorial. You have to take the ribbon, liner, and sweat out of the hat to do it though, so it's not easy. As for just reshaping, you might be able to change the bash by lightly spraying the hat with a little cold water and putting it in the shape you want. It'll probably take a long time to get it stuck like that though.

Okay, I've cleaned this up a bit and am unlocking the thread. I've decided to keep the initial car talk intact, but from this point out, if you want to discuss cars, please do so offline via e-mail or PM. This is a hat forum, so let's keep this thread on topic. Let's also keep it civil, folks. There's no need to tell the moderators and admins how to do their job (which they don't get paid for, by the way) and there's no reason for folks to take pot shots at each other, either. If you have issues with the moderation, either contact the staff via PM or bring it up in the Feedback section where it belongs. So let's keep this one on track, please, for as soon as it gets sour or way off topic again, it'll be locked down again, but permanently. Carry on.

Good point. Lao Che's is a good place to talk about the bits that don't quite fit into the other categories.
As for the BCF hats, I came across one a while back that had a very nice felt to it. It was incredibly smooth to the touch. Sadly, it was too small, otherwise I would've gotten it and reblocked it.

Well, after a few days of playing around with my hat, it is finally starting to take shape. Personally, I think it looks so much better than when I first go it. Now if only I could do something with that edge on the brim! Here are the results so far, let me know what you think.
