Bashing an Akubra Federation

If I bought an Akubra Federation and had to bash it myself, would bashing it affect the crown height in any way? I mean, if the crown is 5.5, would bashing it reduce it to 5 inches or so? Is that possible without making the hat look dorky? The point being, I do not want to look dorky in the hat. If these questions try your patience, remember I am only a lowly dig worker with lots to learn!

Actually, my crown height on my Akubra Federation after bashing it was approximately 5 1/2 inches. I've got pictures of it posted over here:

Thanks for sharing the photos. That is a great looking hat and you look smashing it. Now my mouth is salivating. I recently bought a Borsalino Bellagio in gray but I would never wear that hat ($250) in the rain. Have you worn the Fed in the rain? I read that Akubras can take it. Is that your experience too? Even the brim does not appear as long as it is - 3 inches?
For $100, the Fed looks mighty tempting.

This may be a silly question, but can a Federation be bashed into a diamond or teardrop style? I know this sort of defeats the point of having an Indy style hat, but I happen to like the Fed. and also the teardrop/diamond bash. Thanks.

I have only bashed one hat, a federation.
It kind of wanted a teardrop bash, and took me a couple of trys to get rid of it. So I would say yes.
Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't a deeper center dent reduce the crown height?

I bashed my Akubra Fed. Del. six times now. After four times it still had not any affect to the crown height. After the fourth bash I swam with it through a river, because of a film scene and that had an effect
but not all my bashs before

Justinian, I've had my Akubra for less than a week, so I haven't had a chance to try it in the rain yet (although we did get quite a lot of rain here in southern California just a few days before it arrived). Also, I know that some people over at the Fedora Lounge have creased Akubras with other styles, such as teardrops and diamond styles--perhaps you might want to take a peek over there, too.
