Young Indy Fedora

I've just been watching the YIJC now that they're out on DVD (nearly as good as the movies, imo), and I'm really liking the lid Sean Patrick Flannery wears in some of the scenes (of course, in some of the other scenes it's absolute bullocks  )

I know Fedora has made a YIJC hat or two, but does anyone have any pictures? I've tried to do a search for it, but apparently all the pics have been moved or something. :junior: -IJ

Here is my take on the YIJ fedora... this is a regular Federation.

Like you I like the looks of this hat.

Here is another thread that has a couple of other photos of me in this hat.
Scroll down to the middle....Also a photo of one that Steve made, it is really a sweet looking fedora.

Looks great! I think the ribbon might be a bit narrow (iirc, the YIJC ribbon was 1/4-1/2 an inch wider than the normal movies), but I really like the look. Great job! :junior: -IJ

Thanks Chiliana, I wear my Federation all the time. I really like the different crease that the YIJ style has.

That and the shorter crown combined with the wider brim is a neat look too. I still love the tall crown-wide brim of Raiders, but the YIJ hats are pretty darn cool too. :junior: -IJ

same here. I have a Miller inspired by the YIJ fedora. I've had it for years through many travels, snowstorms and rainstorms and it still goes strong. :D

i remember people in here saying that a miller will taper like %$+Q5u&%$" if it gets wet or whatever but that depends on what bash-style you have on your hat i guess, because my hat hasnt just been wet, it's been SOAKING wet and it still holds up to this day.

Hmm...would that be the 257 model? If so I might have to look into that. It's no adventurebilt, but it might make a darn good young indy hat, especially given the fact that it has a wider ribbon. :junior: -IJ

it's the 257 alright and it is great for the YIJ look. Trust me.

But the Adventurebilt company can create you one too. I have seen some of them created by Fedora (Steve) and they are REALLY nice. I was about to order an AB a few years ago but i had my new 257 miller on the way so i waited to see how it was. Havent parted from it since.
Actually sendt steve a mail about a YIJ hat in October 2007 but i havent heard from him yet. He's quite busy but that made me think if i really can replace the miller since it's such a good friend of mine now.

The Miller is Cheaper but with the AB you know what you get

Awesome, I think I might look into one of the millers...once I get my KCS AB in the mail from Steve, that is. As you can see, I'm getting a little ahead of myself. :junior: -IJ

Looks very good.I like it too when the crown is much smoother than the Raiders hat.

Since I finally learned how to post photos, I would contribute photos of my YIJ fedora, a 1993 untrimmed "Taupe" poet hat. According to Mr. Swales, this is the hat that was picked for the series..

Chilliana is right, the Miller can be a great fedora. I still have mine after a decade!

Wow, RNomura, I think that hat nails it! If only it were the sable color...

Still, it's a great hat. Thanks for sharing. How often do you wear it? :junior: -M

Nice hat!

i have noticed the middle part of the bow is actually turned the other way on the YIJ fedora.

(not a great shot of the bow but you can see what i mean.)

CJ,

Actually, my first YIJ hat nailed the bow perfectly. It looked like a three parter with the raised "stripe" in the center. That hat, unfortunately, took a dip in San Francisco Bay and properly shrunk. I returned the hat to Swales for a refurbish and got a whole new hat instead. I was a bit disappointed with the new bow but my old hat was long by then. First hat was purchased in March 1993 and the replacement arrived in the fall...

The photo you posted was from "London 1916" when Indy went to visit Miss Seymour in Oxford. It was the only time you see his hat with the rear of the brim curled up.

I haven't worn this hat in a few years. Either it has shrunken or my head has gotten bigger..

Here's my YIJ hat (sold it for $150 on eBay in 2005):

The original block shape was the most Raider-esque of any of my old hats, but I didn't like the 2 inch ribbon. I was going to give this hat to my cousin, but he said it looked too "stovepipe" for his taste, and he sent it to Worth & Worth in New York for a free reblocking (don't know if they still offer this service). It came back looking like this, and he still wasn't satisfied, so he gave it back to me.

Thats a really cool picture :D i really love those old conn soprano saxophones they're really beautiful instruments....cost a bomb though for a descent one :(

Nice hats btw i've always had a notion for the yij fedora they always seem really relaxed and well worn for some reason.
