When I posted pictures of my last finished bullwhip, Paul mentioned I was in the middle of another new 5ft 12plait bullwhip in whiskey red, and made me promise to post pictures of that one when I was done - well here it is. It has one braided belly, and and a 10 inch handle. The fellow I made it for is most interested in doing fine target work, and so far he's been really happy with it. So happy actually, that he showed it to all his friends and coworkers, one of whom ordered another one just like it from me on the spot. I'm pretty excited about that. :-)

This whip's home is now in a local VERY smoky cigar store (one of the last places in the state where it's legal to smoke indoors in public). I'm curious about what the constant thick jungle of smoke will do to the leather - darken it quicker maybe at least? Maybe something else too? Everything else in the store has a sticky coat of yellowy tobacco grime on it, and I'm sure the whip won't be spared this treatment because when the owner isn't cracking it, he leaves it out on display in the store. Any thoughts on what extreme quantities of tobacco smoke would do to a whip?

I'd also like to hear your thoughts on this whip in general. I was pretty happy with how it turned out - this color looks amazing in person, and it definitely targets easily. Between the 10 inch handle and a very tightly braided transition, it's not hard to point at exactly what you want to cut or wrap. It doesn't work as well for more complex plane-changing routines though, partially due to its length and probably partially because of how stiff the first couple feet of the whip are.

Here's some pictures I took before I gave it to him:

Absolutley top shelf, a beautiful color indeed, I also like the shape and over all taper, very nice, :D .

I'd say as long as the cigar shop owner wipes the whip down now and then with a damp rag, then works some leather dressing into it, there should be no problem.

Keep up the wonderful work.

Happy Holidays!

With all the smoke, the whip could get cancer of the overlay, or maybe cancer of the fall. Worst case scenario would be that it gets cancer of the belly, in which case the whip will become rotten to the core. Whips don't seem to handle kemo very well, unfortunately
