OHMIGOD.... it's here... IT'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by rhboyd »

Pics to come... but I had to announce to the forum....

My HH Wested Raiders arrived today... and aside from getting hosed by the Canadian Government for duty and taxes....

IT'S FABULOUS!!!!!!!

It fits like a dream!!!! Sleeves a little long, but should be taken care of by natural bunching. The leather is supple and creaky... silky / matt finished, and a great weight... not too heavy... not to light. If I need to get dragged behind a truck... THIS is the jacket for it!!!!!

WOO!!!!

I'm SO thrilled!!!!

BIG thanks to Michaelson for sage advice and hand-holding.... and HUGE thanks to Peter... I'm out of words to describe my joy, and how very worth the wait it was... since 1983, when I got my first ever "indy" jacket... to now... getting the real thing!!!!

I'm NEVER taking this thing off!!!!

woot!!!

Congrats on the new jacket - wear it with pride! And don't worry about the sleeves - better have a little extra than have them be too short.
Enjoy!

Hey...

In my zeal to get the pics up... I must apologise for crappy pics. My son was taking them... and was impatient, so there was no time to get really good ones... and thus I look wide as a house... ugh... none the less... I've also included pics of my denim Raiders.... which came last week... what a great month!!!!

Anyhoo...

Here they are!!!

But first... I know it's NOT an Indy hat... it was my grandfather's and he gave it to me when Raiders came out cause he thought it was close and that I'd like it. A vintage 50's 100% beaver. It's my wear-every-day hat....

Both jackets look great - my next jacket (whenever that is) looks like it may be a HH...
By the way, the hat works - you can actually wear that in public without people humming "the Raiders March" as you walk by...
Actually, knowing the ignorance of the general public, they'll probably hum it anyways!

well next time have it delivered to me, show up to the Queen Mary Event, then I give it to you, you hit it with some sandpaper on the raised seams, then when you go home and ask if it is a new jacket, look 'em square in the eye and say "does this LOOK like a new jacket?" Oh and roll around in the dirt behind the truck....or me but if it is me, be aware I have been offered drinks to "pop the clutch" so to speak

This offer is good for any Canadian that does NOT wear a size 60 jacket, if you do THAT one I might not give back   :D

Glad you got your jacket, someday I will get a REAL Indy jacket too, then I will be jumping for joy

Hi folks... I've been a lurker here for a long time, and my pal Ron nagged me enough to finally sign up... so I figured this was an appropriate place for my first post.

Ron and I ordered jackets together, so mine is here too, I just don't have it yet!!!

I feel I know some of you already, and I'll be posting more regularly in time.

Nice jackets! The pockets on the LC jacket don't look as scalloped as some recent Westeds though? Easily sorted with a bit of water and tugging at them though.

Thanks all!!!!

I just noticed the non-scallped pockets last night. sigh...

What happened was that I asked for the Raiders HH, scalloped pocktes, 1 gusset, box stich on the straps and rectangular sliders.

I got a panicked email from Peter last week, saying that the jackets ( I ordered with my pal Nels... 2 denims and 2 leathers... hence the duty charges... more on that later. ) were on their way out, when he noticed that they were in LAMB... so he was going to get them re-cut... BUT he had a HH sitting there in my size, but with the press studs. I'm ok with the storm flap closing... good for blustery Canadian winds... so I got that one, and Nels got his re-cut.

But I didn't get scalloped pockets.

oh well? It's a great jacket. Iw as never in this for SA anyway, so I'm pretty happy.

Before I ordered, I had just bought a new suit, so I got myself measured properly, and gave these measurements to Peter... 44 Reg, shirt size 15.5 33. I told him what Michaelson told me also, to add an inch or so to that sleeve length to account for the looser fit of the leather. I don't know how it worked with the jacket that was there... whether it was re-cut in the sleeve or it just happened to be in my size, but it seems just great. I'm going to wait for it to break in to give the final word, but if the sleeves end up a little too long, I may have them shortened here. NOT a big deal. I also just noticed that ONE of the strap joints doesn't have the box stitching. hmph. Not sure what to do with THAT.

Anyhow... the denim fits beautifully, a 44 reg off the shelf... a little more snug than the leather, which is perfect for what it is.

Now then... the cost. Peter gave me a deal because I was ordering 4 jackets at once, and I don't think it's right for me to discuss that. He was very kind and generous about it, and even with the duty and such, I am very pleased. The cost slipped out of my mind as soon as I slipped on the jacekts... I asm SO thrilled with them.... Canada... Peter didn't charge me any extra for what I asked... it wasn't QUITE a custom job... but since he made that error, that HE CAUGHT about the hide, he tossed in the custom labels on each of our coats. \:D/

I'm sure there could be nits to be picked, but since I was looking for an Indy jacket from THE source... and wanted a jacket to wear, that will last, I am quite thrilled.

Any more questions?!?

Fire away!!!

thanks for all the warm fuzzy thoughts... NOW I feel like part fo the gang!!!

cheers,
-r!

That's a great looking comfortable fit. Go out, wear it and enjoy it :).

The duty charge wasn't too bad considering it was for 4 jackets!

I've paid more than that on 1!

Well.. I've never actually said what it was... so for the record, total duty ( as well as sales tax, and the beloved Canadian Goods and Service tax ) for 4 jackets in 2 packages... just under $80 a person... so $40 a jacket. MIGHT have been circumvented by some clever package labeling, but I got a note to Peter too late... ah well... I'm so happy with the jackets, it just doesn't matter.

luv!!!!!

Thanks Canyon... <- blush....

I love that art SO much.... I have it hanging on the wall not far from my desk. Talk about inspiration... oy!!!!

I might have to post a nice big scan for you....

lurch.... middle of September wsa when the official order was placed, but I did it mainly by speaking with Peter on the phone... lots of back and forth... emails and phone calls... he's a great GREAT guy to chat with... takes a couple of beats to get the cadence of the accent...

g'luck!!!

Hey rhboyd, nice jacket! It looks a tad over-sized to me, however.
I guess I'm more of an "80s fit" Wested guy.
But then agin, it all boils down to taste.
Nice purchase. That Canadian winter should break it in...

I hear ya, Sebas... but it suits me just fine... I hate things that are too snug in the shoulders, and this one sits just perfectly. I'm looking forward to the broken in look.... but it's gonna be a while... No alcohol and sandpaper for THIS jacket....

Roger that, Rh. And yes, I'd also avoid the whole ipso facto "aging" techniques. I've had my Wested for nearly 9 years and part of the fun is watching how it ages through the years.

Here's a post with some pics.

Cheers!
