Best Way to Break In a Bullwhip?

Post by Dr._J »

Besides constant use, is there a shortcut to breaking in a bullwhip? Maybe plenty of Pecards and constant kneading of the bullwhip whist watching Last Crusade?

Regards,

I wouldn't use excessive amount of leather conditioner. Just use the whip.

[in radio announcer's voice] Sounds like a U. of Michaelson proponent! Frank, you bring up a good point.

Now lets' hear a response from someone in the MK arena.....

I took my whip to a Whip Enthusiasts meeting and let everyone crack it. That seemed to really do the trick. Everybody cracked it a different way and it worked really well.

Just use it...

Excessive "forcing" or flexing of the whip by hand can do more damage than it can good.

Just use it, man...

Agreed, the best way to break it in is to "break it in." Pecard it up, let it set a day or two, and get cracking. Period. A whip is not fine china, it's meant to be cracked. The more you crack her, the more she'll "loosen" up. Enjoy, but just don't shoot your eye out!

Excessive use of Pecards will damage the whip. Just a light dab when the leather on the thong when it is appears dry to touch, should suffice. I know Dr. J you live in Southern California, so maybe more than once every 6 months is recommeded. But again, each application should be REAL light. I'd go heavy on the fall since that piece gets the most abuse.

But just regular use, you should have a completely broken in whip within a month, generally speaking.
