FINAL design for the labels of the AB shirts

Hey gang,
I wanted to show off the label that I'll have made for the AB shirts. Jason was so kind to supply me with a couple of pictures from the original shirt designers shirt.
Here's what it looks like:
I sent the pictures to Kim, asking what he things. If this would be something we should look into or rather make up something completely new. When I received his reply, he had already made a version of the AB label and I must say that I absolutely love it. It's plain, simple and yet it says everthing that AB is about.
What do you think:
I'm not perfectly positive on the color yet, but as always critism is more than welcome.
Regards,
Marc

Hmmm... I think with a word like dedicated as the first word, it feels like it's missing something when there's no name or something underneath it. It's almost like you're dedicating the shirt to somebody and forgot to mention who it is. Grammatically, the way it's all arranged right now it feels like it should be reversed if you want the effect that you're describing having felt. I know you want to keep the label with a D word so it looks like Dometakis - but why replicate his label? What he did was put his name in big letters and then something small in the corner like a side note. I would say make the main part say "ADVENTUREBILT" and then you can either put "Dedicated" in the bottom right, or something else if you'd like to communicate a different message. If I were the maker of this shirt, a perfect reproduction of the Andre Dometakis shirt, I'd want people to see my company's name before anything else when they look at the tag, besides the grammatical viewpoint of putting your qualifier as the main word and then your own name small and in the bottom corner, tucked away. Be proud! It'll still be like Andre's label, but with your name instead. I say that although it's a nice idea, don't feel obligated to start your label with a D word just so it'll be like Andre's if you look at it from far away.
In short, I suggest reversing the order of the words, and open the possibility for you to change "Dedicated" to anything else, if you so please. With regards to the color, I think it's fine as is!

I agree with Shane on this one. Put "Adventurebilt" in the Old English font and to heck with the big "D".
As for the color, the photo looks like it was taken on a white wall with bad lighting... so are you sure the ticket isn't simply white?
Kind regards,
Indy

Marc, if I didn't know any better I would think the brand name was Dedicated. Just use ADVENTUREBILT.

Thanks for your highly appreciated input Gentlemen!
It was suggested to use the same font as on the hats from John as well, and with Indy - being into this for quite a while longer than I - thinking the same, there must be something to it...
On the German forum, the missing logo was mentioned as well. We have it both on the hats and on the holsters as well. What do you think.
I really appreciate your input, so don't be shy
Thanks,
Marc

You could put the Ra headpiece behind the text in a sort of semi-transparent style... it does seem like you should put it on there if you put them on your hats AND holsters.

Yes. Headpiece, headpiece, headpiece!
Seriously, I totally agree. The name "Adventurebilt" must be the eyecatcher! It is what indicates the high degree of "screen accuracy" to those who know what to connect with this brand name!

The Design idea on this particular label was not to make an Adventurebilt label but a label that closely resembled the original label on the costume shirts from Raiders with out violating any name protection. The color of the label was just picked directly from the shirt pic so Marc could see the two designs side by side.
How ever being a professional designer I would definitely go down a completely different path if it's an Adventurebilt label we want.
Just what I was aiming at when I did this.
Cheers

I like your idea, K, but bear in mind, very few but the really HARD core hobbiests have the slightest clue what the comparison is, so it may be best to make them something EVERYONE will recognize.....and maybe produce a few 'special' labels for those who want that connection to the original maker.
Just a thought....

I agree with the others. While it looks 'authentic' in a way to have that "Dedicated" there, it just makes the whole thing look out of place.
Now, if you were to name these shirts "Dedicated", much in the same way that Levi's (for example) names some of their jeans "501", then I suppose it would make sense... to the wearer at least.
But if it were up to me, I'd put the Adventurebilt in the center, and off on the corner, maybe "of Germany", or even "of {insert tailor's store name}".

i'd say dedicated sums up all the folks behind the AB name.....moreso than the fictional character that we covet.
i like the label that you have made originally....very euro to my eye. you've got at least one supporter marc/k......but then again, i'm on meds for my oc disorder

I personally like...
Adventurebilt
Dedicated
...but in the font you chose. That's a good idea, guys. I think the nod to Dometakis is cool just by using the font. That in itself is cool enough to me. However, I'll dig whatever you guys decide to go with. I'm more intersted in the shirt than the tag. I think the shirt is a knockout by sight.

A little off topic, but is it just me, or does the material, design, and overall look of that Dometakis shirt look completely un-accurate?

Good eye. It is double the weight of the standard shirt so it is thicker.
Posted: Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:02 am
by McFly
It's almost IndyIV-ply.
His new shirt looks almost that thick. Imagine wearing THAT with your leather jacket in the jungle.
On a more serious note, is that darker than the standard shirt by a shade or two? Maybe it's the double ply that lets less light shine through that makes it look darker... I'm not saying it should be stone, but it just looks like the pants color.

JMO - drop "Dedicated" as it sounds too romantic and soft. Use the Raiders of the Lost Ark opening title fonts for the lettering. Maybe call it:
ADVENTUREBILT

Or perhaps if you choose to go with naming the shirt a name, it might be better off called:

Heck, it would be cool if AB started giving all their gear nicknames... Like naming their fedoras: 'Glory' (i.e.: Fortune and Glory)

You could always get some pencil-thin model to sell it for you!
Sorry, Marc, but that's just how it reads to me. If you want to advertize it as an Adventurebilt shirt, then that should be the prominent focus of the label. Marketing 101.
Use whatever font treatment suits your idea, but I'd make your brand the first thing you see on the label.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if Steve wants to keep that once the site will be re-vamped... AB has just become so common sense. Hardly anyone posts picture of their F&G

But then Marc, nobody posts pictures of their Poets either - just their HJs, or their 405s - just their Aldens, or their Adventure Shirts - just their Magnoli shirts.
It comes with the territory. Nobody here cares about model names, just "Where can I get it?"

Jup, and we're JUST the same as everyone else in here, as we're fans too
I don't think that anyone will think hats, when somebody posts something like "got my AB" in the gun- and holstersection. I gotta agree with Bink here. The assosiation with the perfume just scared the
excrementum outta me. Let's not start trying to become fancy or hip here. As these words make me run even faster than the though of AB perfume

Well, Marc, glad I could force a change of undies.
You know that I've alway appreciated any input I get. That's why I showed you the picture BEFORE I went ahead and ordered the labels. If you remember, I did the same on the liners and sweats on the hats. Or to quote my dear friend Mr. Delk: "This is a group effort"!
I don't blame you, as I don't EVEN want to contemplate what the perfume would have to smell like to be called 'Adventurebilt Dedication!
What does a dedicated hatter probably smell like, after working an entire day on hats. Sweatin', stitching himself, and burning his own skin on a vintage iron... use your imagination. Oh, sorry! I forgot this is a family friendly forum
Maybe this discussion should be moved into an above 21 years section
Cigar smoke, sweat, and burning felt.
Hey, that's not so bad after all...

I like the word Dedicated but I think it should be a tag line if anything not the largest thing on the tag. Personally I think it looks unbalance. I agree with Shane and Indy Magnoli - Put the Adventurebilt name in the more prominent old English font. I also think that you should use the logo that you use on all the other Adventurebilt items. By the way. I LOVE the name Adventurebilt. I guess that is why I think this shirt should show it off. I also agree that ultimately it is the quality of the shirt not the tag that will sell this shirt.
JMHO.

Adventure shirt or designer shirt. Either way you should stay with the Adventurebilt name and logo.

Hello,
How about a variation of what Agent5 suggested:
Dedicated
ADVENTUREBILT
Adventure Shirt
With the "Dedicated" in the upper left of the label, "ADVENTUREBILT" in large bold OE script centered in the middle of the label and the "Adventure Shirt" in the lower right of the label so it slants from upper left of the label to lower right of the label thereby filling up the entire label? Maybe the "Adventure Shirt" part is too busy or too redundant?

JEEP suggested Adventurebilt Haberdashers to me. I must say that I do like the vintage and classe ring it has to it.

"Adventurebilt Haberdashers" is kind of a step away from "Adventurebilt Trinkets and Doodads for Men"
"Adventurebilt" on the tag by itself would look good. Use that font if you like but that's all it needs, really.
Or to take this reasoning to its logical conclusion, why not just have the name tag read: "Shirt". :p
So far, we have...
"Adventurebilt, Haberdashers" sounds fine.
"Adventure Shirt" sounds fine.
"Dedication of Adventurebilt" sounds fine.
"Dedicated by Adventurebilt" sounds fine.
Hmm... how about a name that take its cue from Raiders' dialogue, much like the 'Fortune and Glory fedora'... Something along the lines of: "Snakehater Shirts, by Adventurebilt", or "Overdressed, by Adventurebilt", or maybe even "Kadan, du Aventurebilt"
Actually, come to think of it, that last one has a nice ring to it...
Kadan
Du Adventurebilt

Adventurebilt is your brand name, so that should be most prominent. It's a good, tough-sounding name. Additional words serve to identify the model or item. What you choose here will depend on the impression and
feel you want to give for the shirt.
Using idolizing descriptions of Indy's characteristics emphasizes the Indy-fan angle: "Dedicated", "Daring", "Dauntless", "Fearless", "Audacious", "Dashing", etc. These are the gushings of an awestruck fan
. If you emphasize the fan connection too much, you risk giving the impression that the shirt is a costume piece made for Indy fans to dress-up in, rather than functional clothing.
If you want to convey the feeling of a real-world, hard-wearing adventure shirt, I think you need to lose the romantic angle and keep it raw and practical like Army issue clothing. Could be item numbers along the lines of "A-2" or "M-65", for example. Just think, if Indy went to David Morgan looking for a hard-wearing, dependable bullwhip, he might simply ask for a "455". Alternatively, you might use no-nonsense descriptions like "safari shirt", "pilot shirt", "field shirt", "expedition shirt", or perhaps even "explorer shirt".
IMHO, because the shirt inherently has an Indiana Jones fan connection it does not need further emphasis. So avoid flowery, sentimental words if you want to convey the shirt as a practical, real-world item
as opposed to an "I <3 Indy" T-shirt in disguise
.

I personally don't like that idea and I'll tell you why. We know it's a shirt so to put the word shirt on it seems sort of redundant. Second, it's not field tested yet so that's kind of a misuse of words. Now, if Marc had been wearing one for a year or so, that may be different.
Just my opinion.
How about...
