I need to order a pair of 405's. I normally wear a ten in an athletic shoe, and my dress shoes are 9's. I went to find a foot measuring device, since I live in a small town, I had to go 2 hours to St Louis. I could not find anyone to help me and I did not know how to measure the width, if I call Alden will they be able to pretty much size me up? If they are wrong are they returnable? I apologize if this has been asked before. Chris

Good question. Sounds like you and I have have a similar size (in athletic & dress shoes, anyway).

I am wondering about this same thing here in the Atlanta area. Where in the Atlanta area can I go to get fitted for Aldens?

McMahan's Shoes on Courtland Street are an orthepedic shoe supplier and carry Aldens (they have to order 405s though). They are in the Yellow pages. They have on site shoe repair.

Getting the proper fit is very important. Hopefully, you may find a store near you.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, the 3 dealers closest to me, 2 hours away LOL do not stock the 405. I am not sure if I want to drive 2 hours to get sized or not. Chris

This is my recommendation. While standing on a piece of paper, trace out the outline of feet.

Then I would call Fritz in Sherman Oaks, California. Tell him the Indy Gear guys sent ya. Fritz is very old school and knows quite a bit on how to properly fit your feet to a pair of Aldens. He's been in a business for about 40 years. His biggest claim to fame is that Fritz is the guy that originally sold Harrison his first pair while he was still carpentering. So you will have the honor of having your Alden's fit by a historical figure.

Again, tell him the Indy Gear crowd sent ya. And he will give you instructions on how to trace your feet and sending the traces to his store.

Call toll free to order their catalog 1(800)541-3786 or email them a catalog request whites@whitesoutdoor.com. They have a large fold out they’ll send out “Measuring Made Easy” which has a template already drawn out outlining the various widths/sizes and a way to measure Heel, Instep, Ball which works surprisingly well when done correctly. It’s something like what’s pictured on the URL above, but looks more detailed & professionally done with the basic foot patterns as a guide and measurements already drawn along the sides, etc. Then send that out to Fritz per Sergei’s instructions.

PS: Wow, I just discovered as a side benefit, if you get enough of these foldout patterns and lay them out strategically across the room you can even learn the mambo as well.

I believe you can take them back as long as you are on a carpet when you try them on and do not mark the soles of the boots.
I ordered a pair in the summer and that is one question I asked as they were to send to the UK.
