Mystery of the pleats

All the westeds I 've ever owned (3) had a pleat like this. Actually the two that were 80s fit had it like this, the standard cut had a deeper one.

In comparison with the film jacket though I can't help but noticing that Indy's pleat has the same width for almost all its length, something that is never apparent on wested jackets I ve seen. They all look like the above photo at best. There are also other shots to illustrate this, e.g. the one where he climbs on the wing of the plane and the other where he is hanging above the well of souls

What is the secret of his pleats then? Anybody owns a jacket that simulates the above effect?

Have you undone the strap to see if your pleats are consisent all the way down? Mine appear to be.

I think the width of the pleat itself is the same all the way down but on the screen jacket you posted, it's just opened up more (obviously) but there are two possible reasons for this (IMO). First the back panel is probably tapered more than what's being re-produced now. Second the width of the side panel is probably smaller than what's being re-produced now.

"Mystery if the Pleats"... wasn't that a Young Indy episode?

(Sorry, couldn't help myself! )
