I've been without internet for a couple of days now, so I'm trying to play catch up (Jacket Wars episode V anybody?

)
Anyhow, on the update to the official site, I noticed
http://www.indianajones.com/site/media/ ... 1-1600.jpg
So, anyone recognize or know anything about that hat, and why they would choose it for the wallpaper? (or the whip for that matter?) Unless this hat has a special history, it seems like a "crappy" one to choose for the pic.
Regards,
Brian

You want to read THIS thread, which is all about that particular picture of that hat.

Ok, that hat is NOT, I repeat NOT an AB. It is an old HJ, as the mottled brim speaks for itself. Also the bow is not what we made for the CS film hats. I have never seen an AB taper as much as that hat, even if left under the water for a year. This hat I believe was one of the hats that they got from the warehouse early on. I just think they wanted an old, beaten up looking hat for that pic, and the ABs just would not get that worn looking in such a short time. We sent em the real deal, a high quality hat. I don't think you could get an AB to taper THAT much. Fedora

Perhaps they wanted to tie this film in visually with one of the other films? So they used an HJ from a prior film to do it? Or maybe that just wanted an old worn out hat!
The poster that was released at Comic Com, featured the film hat, and Bernie was upset that they had messd up the top crease, as he was of course not there when department responsible created this poster. I can only imagine how he felt when he saw the hat in question, here. This guy was so meticulous with the treatment of these hats, even while on the set. Yeah, some more fodder for interesting gear stories later on. I look forward to sharing some of this great stuff, and hopefully will remember it all by the time that I can tell it.

Thanks for pointing me to that thread Shane, don't know why I couldn't find it.
It is indeed a very interesting choice of a hat to use in promotional materials. My guess would be that they're trying to boost DP sales, or at least trying to make everyone who already owns one think they have something SA.

My guess is that the departments responsible don't know as much as we do about the hats. They are just like most of the movie going audience, when they see a hat that is brown, it's an Indy hat. I would be surprised if some people even know that this particular style of hats is called fedora.

Too true -
We gotta remember that the majority of us gearheads are a bit OCD about those minor details that are not even on the rest of the movie going public's radar. Case in point - witness the blank look on someone's face when you try to explain how the Raiders fed has a slight turn to it that causes the irregularities in the brim shape...
That said, those are some pretty ugly treatments on both hats...
P.S. My son has the Veggie Tales DVD "Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Samson's Hairbrush" - a spoof off of the Indy movies; during the whole movie everybody keeps refering to Minnesota's hat as a "cap," to which he replies in an ever more irritated voice, " It's not a cap - it's a
FEDORA!!"
Isn't that all of us?
