Joe Campbell did a thread called By Way of Thank you... and in it, he posted this picture: http://www.russellwalks.com/indy1.jpg (Russell, please let me know if this is okay to use this).

Okay, this may be old news, but check out the front of the bag. There seems to be some kind of pocket on the front and this is the first time I've noticed it. :P

Is this something that has been spotted before?

its the patch that catches fire to let the stones drop out. probably something the fx boys modified for the scene.....no?

That's a MkVI, so I think that's just the front pocket of that particular bag. It's got more pockets than the MkVII.

As well as the extra "vent" on the bottom! See, there are three!

Indy G is right. It's the flammable patch that was added to the bag so that it would catch on fire. Most likely remote ignited. Jonesy, good observation! Even I never noticed that!

Yup, that patch is part of the rigging for the SFX in that scene.

Well spotted, though!

To make my bag screen accurate, I just put one of those patches on, just in case I have to yell at some bald cult leader that he betrayed the faith.

Which, happens often here in southern New Hampshire.

What surprises me more in that photo is how narrow the gunbelt looks...
