I say special because he slightly shortened the handle for my smaller hands. It's an 8 footer, and I am just crazy about it.

That's awesome. I emailed Paul today about getting one for myself just like that, except with the normal or larger handle.
Did you have any experience with a whip before this one?

I am so happy with the whip, I just don't know what to do with myself....

And zohar...I DID have some experience with the cowhide stock whips we used around our cows and horses growing up, but not with anything like this....it's just a whole new experience to handle a whip of this magnitude.

I sure am happy with it and do not hesitate at all to recommend Paul to anyone looking for an awesome "first" whip experience. I know I am tickled to death with mine.

Paul showed me a bullwhip on Tuesday that he had just made for someone. (It was probably yours!) Anyway, I was very impressed. His braiding and whip construction has improved immensely in the time I have known him. Paul is putting out an excellent product. I really hope that my own whip making skills will progress to his level of work some day. You've got an excellent whip there, IndyDawg.

Actually, I've had my whip since the beginning of December-so, the whip you saw couldn't have been mine. BUT, I whole heartedly agree with your opinions of Paul's work. He is REALLY making huge leaps and bounds with his whip making.

Maybe I'll get lucky enough to get another one someday.

And for that matter, I wish YOU the best of luck with YOUR whipmaking. It's because of people like you, Paul, and Joe Strain that it will NOT become a lost art!!!

How does it handle with the shorter handle?

It handles very smoothly. It being my first "real" bullwhip experience, I really don't have anything to compare it to, but I know it is very well balanced, throws out very smooth, and (as I mentioned above) cracks like a gun with no amount of "muscling" it necessary. To give you an idea, when I took it out for the first time, just to try a standard forward crack, it just exploded the first time I threw it. It was quite amazing. It took me just a few more times out to master the forward crack, the overhead crack, and the sidearm crack. When it warms up some, I'll start trying some different stuff, right now, I'm just satisfied with practicing what I've learned so far.

Nice whip! You did the same thing that I did. On my newest (and final) bullwhip, I asked David Morgan to customize it with a shorter handle because it looks much more lethal that way, not to mention really cool. Insofar as handling goes, it's really no different than a bullwhip with a normal length handle. I've created a gallery of pictures for the interested whip enthusiast:

I did nothing to it. That's natural aging; just good old-fashioned Pecards and sunlight. The whip is less than 2 years old; I received it from David Morgan on August 27, 2001. I guess it's just a good looking bullwhip!

Hi. This is the first time I"ve ever posted here so excuse any mistakes. I also recently ordered a whip from Paul and I just love it. As a matter of fact, I think that it was the one that Kyle was referring to. It was a 10 foot standard Indy whip with a tapered butt. I just received it last week. I love watching it unroll every time I bring it out and it cracks so effortlessly. My other whip from Texas Bullwhips just seems like a toy now. There's no question as to which one is the better quality. I highly recommned Paul to anyone who is considering a whip. The prices are great and the quality is even better.

I had it out around town with me yesterday to run some errands...one of which was trying to find those elusive "special snaps" that Lee uses on his whipholdrs. Every place I took that whip into, the leather guys were just fascinated by it. I was surprised that not only had most of them never seen anything like it, but NONE of them knew who David Morgan was!!!! And these people call themselves professionals....

Anywho...again, enjoy that whip and be careful with it!

I got very much the same reaction on Halloween, when I wore my outfit to the mall. (People don't seem to trick or treat here, so everybody just congregates at the mall, where the stores hand out candy) I was particularly amused by some of the looks I got from Mall Security. They would give me the once-over, then pause at the whip, as if trying to decide whether or not it was dangerous.

Surprisingly, the British gentleman who owns our local shoe & luggage repair shop didn't seem to regard the bullwhip as anything remarkable when I brought in my Keppler whip carrier for a modification. I was actually surprised that he didn't say anything about it. This guy is all-business, which I suppose is a testament to the time-honored British work ethic.
