A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to......

Post by MK »

My family and I went out to dinner this evening at one of our favorite eateries in the L.A. area. No sooner had we been seated at our table, we were greeted by whom we thought was our waiter. He said, "I'm not your waiter, but I was admiring your footwear. Those are Aldens, are they not, the Indiana Jones boot?"

You can imagine how unexpected this was. I was very surprised that this fellow was able to make out my 405's in the dimly lit restaurant, .....especially since I wasn't wearing my fedora (that would have made it easy). He said they were the best things he ever had on his feet and that his were out in the car, and he would be putting them on as soon as he was off work. He had even brought over one of his fellow co-workers admire my shoes. He said Indy's boots were the one thing about our beloved hero's wardrobe that he admired because they looked so comfortable. He had obtained his from the Alden shop in San Francisco. He was very pleased when I told him about Fritz's shop and that Ford had originally purchased his there. He had learned about the 405's on the Indy Gear site and raised an eyebrow when I said I was the site administrator. We chit-chatted about a few Indy Gear related items and he said he would be visiting the site again soon, as well as Fritz's shop.

It's really great (and rare) when this kind of thing happens. It's such a delight when someone knows exactly what you're talking about.

Very cool story. We had a similar insident at our MN Summit last July when Schwammy was up here. We were at the Park, with all our stuff out and this Biker guy (bicycle, not motorcycle) with all the spandex biking suit and helmut came over to us. I'm thinking.... great, what questions is HE gonna have.... What's this? Indy who?

But low and behold he looks at my JS Bullwhip and goes "Is that a David Morgan?" I didn't know what to say. Not often you find people that know shoes, OR bullwhips....

Thanks for sharing MK!

...hmmm, I’m not sure I like the idea knowing there are ppl out there looking at what type of shoes I’m wearing, it makes me feel a little, er, self-conscious, ...yeah, that’s it. Next thing you know I’ll be wanting to polish my shoes before I go out anywhere.
