hey you whip experts out there! I have a very pristine kip hide caciedo 8fter. It's a creamy rosy color that I would like to change to something more Raiders accurate. I have put it out in the sun for some time with little improvement.

Here's my question. Can I use brown pecards on it? Or shoeshine?

I don't want to ruin it. I just want it to look good for Halloween.

I thought the whip in Raiders was pretty light in color? Am I wrong? I was just thinking about the scene where Harrison and Alfred Molina are swinging across the pit on their way to the idol, and I remember that whip looking almost like a brand new natural tan whip.

Anyway, shoe shine and brown pecards on intended to be used on leather, so I'd say you're pretty safe in using them on your whip. Just make sure the whip has some good drying time so the coloring doesn't rub off on your clothes when you wear the whip.

the whip was definitely light in color. there are plenty of places you can see that the whip is natural tan.. and the part where molina is holding the idol and drops the whip on th ground is a good example.

that being said.. it's also dark in certain scenes too...

Of course the places where the whip appears dark are poorly lit, but the color in those scenes is a lot darker than natural tan nevertheless.

Just give it time and the whip will darken all by iteslf. So you'll have one Halloween where it looks brand new. You'll live, my friend.

as light as it was in raiders....it's still darker than what I have at the moment. It's been handled roughly and sunbathed for some time now. And it still looks like it hasn't seen any action. I've had it since March.

I know I'll live. I didn't mean to come off as frantic or anything . I was just looking for a bit of advice on how to darken it between now and the 31st. Having it looking new this Halloween is NOT really what I would prefer. I'm telling you, this whip looks like it was made from untanned baby human hide.

I don’t usually recommend artificially aging or darkening whips. Aside from just using it or laying it out in the sunlight, I know a few people that had luck darkening up natural tan whips with the brown pecards leather dressing. I’d probably avoid using any type of brown shoe polish on the whole whip, I do use it lightly on the knots, but I match the polish color to the whip color. It would darken it and I don’t think it would hurt the leather but you could have a problem with the polish rubbing off onto your hands or clothes for a while.

I got mine to darken rather quickly and naturally just by puttin the whip on my dash in my car. The sunlight did a good natural job of darkening the leather and all i had to do was let it sit in the sun while i was at work.
