why chromed leather?

i'm a little curious as to why jacket vendors gravitate to using the chromed leather on indy jackets?
_ mentioned that he speced out using the vegetable tanned goatskin when the expo was first conceived but why did g&b go to using the chromed stuff?
same goes for wested....why do they call the chromed leather they use "authentic brown" when the raiders jacket's leather was not finished in this manner....ok....ok....maybe authentic refers primarily to the color but perhaps i'm just getting tired of this shiney glossy stuff. this chromed leather takes about 10 years for it to start looking old ...and as agent 5 would say, a new shiney jacket is not very "indy".
perhaps the answer lies in the fact that the majority of customers want this leather for its longevity as they are only casual indy fans. perhaps these customers should shop at leatherattractions then.........HA HA!!!! sorry.....meds haven't kicked in yet.
