The Shifting Mood With Jackets

Just curious if anyone else has sensed this... when I ordered my LC several years ago, I felt I was in the minority here. Most people, it seemed, went for the Raiders and some people, to be quirky, went for the Temple. It was rare to see people getting LCs. Further, when I ordered my horsehide -- basically COW's first -- I got a lot of funny looks (figuratively speaking), and despite my protestations that it was a good leather evoking the period, most people were set on lambskin, especially. Now, it seems, LCs made from horsehide are almost the default standard for the forums. Anyone else sensed this? Any idea why the shift occured?

My first jacket was a LC as well, but that's just because I liked that movie the best when I was younger.
If I were to make a guess, I'd say the reason why LC seems to be in vogue these days is because of the fact that Indy IV is being made, and because the Indy IV jacket is based off of the LC jacket. Since the Indy IV jacket is not available en masse yet, then the second best thing would be a LC jacket. Let's not forget that there's probably more than a few new faces around here who've been awakened by the Indy IV fever, so naturally they'd want gear as close to that movie as possible.
As for the leather issue, I'm guessing that over time, people shifted from being completely S.A., to resigned to not being able to have a 100 percent S.A. replica. So since the default designs go for practicality more than replication, why not go for a leather that does the same thing (assuming practical = trashing it around).
Just my thoughts.

It's because Peter refreshed the design, making the collar/collar stand SA to the film. If he takes a crack at the TOD jacket that looks like Indiana G's custom job, people will start buying that one.

Interesting, I wasn't aware the LC pattern had been changed.

Indeed. About six months after I bought the previous pattern. But no matter, I like the collar on the one I have, and the jacket is great. I'm a big fan of the LC jacket, and I'm glad Peter made the change. I hope he sells a lot of the new pattern, so that he goes for the TOD jacket.
Peter, if you make the TOD jacket as per the research on this page, you will sell dozens to COW members alone.

Why did he get the collar so wrong???? Wasn't the LC a Wested? It ***** that the collar on my LC looks so much like Dumbo.

Why did he get the LC collar wrong? Why did he get the LC pockets wrong? Good questions. I wish there were an easy answer. What we have learned here is that just beacuse someone makes a movie jacket, doesn't mean they can reproduce that jacket for sale.

You sound a little bitter, CM. Can you elaborate?

I agree with the above comments. Ive just had my LC style jacket, to accompany my others. It was ordered mainly because of the changes to the pattern and the more accurate collar shape I was hoping to receive.

Bitter? Not a bit. I love my LC Wested. It just doesn't look much like the film version. You really need to make a bunch of requests to get there. As you do with all Westeds. Which does seems silly given the advertsing. Good jacket, well made, not accurate.

I supposedly got the TOD version in HH (3 years ago), and it doesn't really look like any of the movie jackets. The jacket as a whole probably looks closer to LC, but the collar looks like an A2- it stands up straight. Doesn;t bother me though.
Rob, I think as more of us got the HH and gave it rave reviews, people decided to give it a shot. Its much more practical a leather choice (and its a great deal).

Oh you can say that again... and wait until I reveal my secret project that I'm currently working with Peter on.
All I can say at this time is that it's a HH and it's not an Indy jacket

I'm just happy to order a HH wested. I have an Aero Barnstormer in HH and boy is that leather thick! I am glad to hear that the Wested HH is more pliable. It is a workout wearing the barnstormer on my motorcycle.
