Brazilian S&W1917

Post by Magnum Jones »

Is anyone familiar with the brazilian S&W1917?

I have heard rumors of Brazilian 1917's selling for around $200.00 I found a little info on them. does anyone have any more info on them?

Here is a small clip I found about the S&W brazilian 1917.
In 1937 S&W received an order from the government of Brazil for 25,000 1917 revolvers with the Brazilian crest on the side plate. In the last few years some of these have been imported back into this country.

World War II put a stop to commercial production and after the war the large frame revolver disappeared from Colt's catalog. S&W, working largely with parts already in inventory, continued sales of the 1917 until 1949. :?:

The Brazil contract 1917s are a cheaper find than the typical 1917, though the one's I've seen have been slowly climbing in price. If you can find a Brazil contract 1917 for $200 and it's a tight gun, get it!

They were importing these in fair quantities several (like 10 or 15) years ago, and I think the dealer costs were about $300. I REALLY wanted one then, but had no cash. I have seen a couple on Gunsamerica relatively recently, and I think they were wanting something like $600 for them.

The $200.00 1917's are found in the same place you buy .68 per gal. gasoline. :D
