Were the LC jackets cowhide?

I believe I read somewhere that the jackets made by Wested for LC were cowhide.... Is this a fact or did I dream it?! :-k

If so, perhaps that is why the jackets for the new film are cowhide as well, being that it seems to be a LC styled jacket.

Anybody know this info?

I have always heard that they were lambskin, but not being there and/or wearing one....you know what they say about what you "hear."

i believe it was written in the jacket section of indygear that the jacket was cowhide. i thought so too. i was later corrected that the lc jackets were lamb just like the previous ones....unless that has changed as well.

_'s upcoming writeup should cover all of this.

I think the way it is is this:

Raiders - Wested/Leather Concessionaires - lambskin
ToD - Cooper jackets - cowhide (I think) - and some Raiders jackets from archives
LC - Wested/Leather Concessionaires - lambskin again

but don't quote me officially on that...

LC was Lambskin

Peter said all the Indy jackets he made were lambskin, albeit of a thicker variety:

Allegedly, during the production of Temple of Doom, the jackets were cheaply copied by a French company for use in the film. The jacket in the film is around an inch longer than Ford’s more snuggly fitting jacket in Raiders. By Last Crusade, the jacket was once again manufactured by Peter Botwright’s company and made from cowhide instead of the lighter lambskin and a snap button was added to the jacket’s storm flap to keep in closed, more akin to the design of the A2.
my mistake, this misinformation came from theraider.net

it's all about the lambskin for the pre-senior citizen indy.....gets too cold in florida for the retiring dr. jones so he switched up to cowhide.......to go with his bermuda shorts, knee high black socks and sandals......

man, i'm just mean today.....gotta take some meds

The LC jacket may have been lambskin but I think the cowhide that Wested offers really captures the look of the leather in the film. My Wested is a presdistressed cowhide and after treating it twice this week with Pecards, (I live in CO where its really dry) its actually darkening up to look less distressed and more and more like the LC jacket.

OWJ88, is your LC one of Peter's new ones? If so, consider sending us some photos?

I believe it is. The collar is different from several of the LC styles I have seen. It is cut to a point and halfway to the flap.
I will try to take some photos and post them soon. When I first got the jacket it seemed so lightweight, now that it has two coats of Pecards on it, its starting to feel like a heavier cowhide. The color looks awesome.

Lambskin/Cowhide...

True, that, _....

Lambskin that, I also have always thought, too, looks a LOT like Wested's distressed cowhide. With one exception, every Wested I've owned more than ten minutes was their distressed cowhide for that very reason...I like the LC jacket best and do believe that cowhide captures that look just more naturally.

Have not seen their horsehide in person yet, though....and I'm seriously contemplating a purchase here pretty soon....

Oh, and yes, indeed, Minnesota....I'm back....beaten and bloodied, (kinda like my beloved GA Dawgs) but still standing.

Later!

Good for tearing down fences and wearing as jackets....

And chasing tanks, I guess....

Thanks _, for lobbing that one over my head. Just when I thought it was going to be an open and shut case, you have to endorse the hide I wanted in the first place....

I guess I could always get one of each and then decide which I like more! :P

Tell me this about the horse, _....how quickly did it "grain" up?

Oh, and I'll pass the thanks on to Swindiana as well, Michaelson....thanks again!

Later on!
