Any new alternative Indy shirt discoveries, lately?

Bags, Boots, Shirts and all other gear should be discussed here.

Any new alternative Indy shirt discoveries, lately?

Post by PropReplicator »

Have there been any new discoveries lately for good alternatives to Noel Howard's Indy shirts? Or is the list on the IndyGear shirt page complete?

Thanks!

Well, if your asking the indygear.com people specifically, then you can ignore this, but if not, I found one that I consider pretty good. It's a khaki faded glory shirt that I got at Wal-Mart. It doesn't have the pleats (sp?) over the front pockets, but it does have front pockets. The buttons are the wrong color, but if you can find buttons of the right color you could replace them pretty easily.

I remember my first Indy shirt, It was made by St. John's Bay, I still have it and wear it in fact. It's a nice stone colored shirt, has the front pockets, darker buttons, the shoulder eplets, all that good stuff. Found it at JC Penney, didn't cost a whole lot either as I recall. Happy Hunting!

L.L. Bean has been one of the best alternatives for me. The color of
the shirt is a nice stone khaki. It has survived many a camping trip too.

For a shirt that is true to the Indy spirit differs somewhat from the Indy letter, consider the Orvis Bushveld Elephant shirt, which is first cousin - so to speak - to the Orvis Bush Shirt.

The Bushveld shirt differs from the Bush shirt with slightly lighter cloth, no epaulets, and leather tabs on it.

Orvis provides the following blurb:
Our African Train Safari will take you from Pretoria to Victoria Falls in 9 days, stopping along the way for hunts in the “Bushveld” country, with more than a hundred beaters driving the guinea fowl and francolin over the line to you. In the desert, you’ll shoot Namaqua sandgrouse from traditional stone butts, where 1,000 or more birds fly to water holes in the early morning. This shirt is designed for that kind of adventure. Made from our soft but tough cotton canvas Elephant Cloth, with functional features including bellows pockets, roll-tabs on the sleeves, and a deep back pleat for easy movement. In khaki, olive. Washable. Imported.
Sizes: M(38-40), L(42-44), XL(46-48 ), XXL(50-52).
