Club Obi Wan

Sadly after almost two decades the Wild West Arts Club is being officially disbanded. As Whip enthusiasts and whip makers, I know many of you are/were members of W.W.A.C. and attended the conventions and regional get-togethers, so please be sure to check out http://www.wwac.com/ for details from Mark Allen. The WWAC has done a lot over the years to promote the Wild West Arts, especially whip cracking; in a positive and professional light, this is very unfortunate news.

This will however not affect the Western Stage Props Company, as they are separate entities.

That is a shame. The WWAC con in Vegas is something that I have always wanted to attend and now...well...

The National Convention hasn't been in Vegas for a few years now. They moved it to the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore, OK.

THAT event, like the similar regional events in Ohio, New Jersey, and Texas at this point looks like it will continue to go on, due to the good graces of Mark Mulligan and Mike Bainton.

I've heard that at the VERY least, the knife section of the traditional Netcong, New Jersey WWAC event will be hosted International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame, but I have a feeling that the whips, ropes and all of the other stuff will make their way into it somehow.

On top of that, I can assure everyone that the Ohio Regional WWAC event, Held at Annie Oakley Days in Greenville will be going strong next year with knives, ropes, gunspinning, and of course, our favorite...whips. Gery and I have been talking about making it even bigger and better next year, and you don't have to be a member of the WWAC, the IKTHOF, or our Society of American Whip Artistry to come learn and play.

As to where we go in the vacuum of the WWAC. Keep watching this space. There will be an answer very soon.

I had read Gery’s bulletin earlier today and was very happy to hear what he’s planning with a new western arts association, I’m really looking forward to seeing what you guys have up your sleeves. I was also very glad to read that he’s going to continue the Annie Oakley Day's festival in Ohio.

I’ve heard from the IKTHOF too that they want to try to keep their World Championships in Claremore on the dates usually set for the WWAC convention and they’ve mentioned pulling together with other groups like the whip crackers and gun spinners and ropers to try and keep the event going in some fashion, which is also great news.
