Well my Wested finally arrived. I know it's been reviewed numerous times so I'll pretty much just give my 2 cents and post some pics.

First thing I noticed was how lightweight the horsehide was. I am used to heavyweight motorcycle jackets and putting on the Wested almost feels like putting on a fancy dress jacket. My brother got one in distressed cowhide and his is even thinner than mine. I can see why production went through so many jackets during the "dragging under the truck" scene.

Although the jacket is very thin, after wearing it a while I realized how much of a pleasure it is to wear. So soft and comfortable.. it will definitely make a great daily wearer come fall.








I love the larger Last Crusade collar...




The YKK zipper gets the job done... would have been nice to see something else on there though...



I love the pockets...



All in all I gotta say that I love the jaket. Would I ever wear it on my cycle.. nah, but it will definitely get a lot of use.

I love the grain of the horsehide. Very nice. Another great looking creation from Wested.

If I get another Wested sometime it would most likely be the HH.

Any specs other than it being the LC version?

That's one of the nicest HH Wested's I've seen in a LONG time!

I personally like the heavy duty zip. You just KNOW it will do the job when the weather turns bad on you.

This is a beautiful jacket. Did you ask for anything specific when you bought this? Is the zip on it standard? It is gorgeous. How heavy of this jacket compared to the lambskin (if you have a lamb). Is there an extra charge from Peter for the Horsehide?

No, that's one of the amazing things -- the HH is the same price.

I would be wearing mine so much more if I didn't, erm, out-grow it.

HeyLouisiana Jones, nice lookin jacket you have there, I was always under the impression that the HH was thicker and that equated to a heavier feel to it. Glad to hear thats not so.

As they say around these parts, "wear it in good health".

I had no idea that when I bought this I could have called Peter and spec'd out a jacket. So basically I just filled out the online order form. The only options I remember was the HH, the d-rings on the side adjusters, and the lining is the cotton with satin sleeves (very comfortable on the arms). It's a size 46.. fits my body great but it could be an inch or so longer... no biggie though. The zipper was the standard zip.. I didn't ask for anything else.

As for HH being thicker.. it usually is. This jacket is definitely thicker than my brother's cowhide Indy, but it is by far the lightest HH I have ever felt. I actually emailed Gemma to ask if they gave me the wrong hide, but she confirmed that it is horse. So Croft, you are correct in thinking HH is usually thicker. It is, but in this case it is still very thin (but I only have motorcycle jackets to compare it to, and they are all heavy-weight leathers and not as comfortable as my HH Indy. For example my Langlitz moto jacket is heavy cow and tips the scales at 9 pounds.. now that's a jacket!). And if you like the grain of this HH you should really check out some older HH moto jackets... the grain on the thicker HH is amazing.

Indiana, yes the jacket is too thin to wear on my cycle. It would be super comfortable, but if I slid on the pavement I am pretty sure the elbows would tear right through. Also the collar is so big on it and has no hidden snaps so it would catch air and "collar flap" would occur. If you've ever been cruising at 65 and had your leather collar slap you in the face 10 times a second, you'd realize you want snaps under the collar.

And just to reiterate, I am very pleased with the jacket. I might have been able to get a heavier-duty jacket from another company, but I like the fact that Westeds were worn in the movie.

Personally, I don't think so. These jackets, made by whatever company, aren't designed to be motorbike jackets. Those kinds of jackets are their own thing, and often reinforced by more than just the hide itself; something that these jackets aren't, regardless of vendor.

I realize that.. and I wasn't looking to use the Indy jacket for motorcycle riding. The other leather jackets in my closet are all moto jackets so they are what I had to compare with.

whew...that thing looks nice and shiney. It has been a while since i remember seeing my wested come in looking that new. I must admit though i never get tired of seeing new pics of new westeds. No matter what they always look sharp. Gratz on the HH...it really does look great.

Is that the authentic or dark brown?

Either way it is a great jacket!

bear in mind that this jacket was ordered straight off their website without any special requests for the scalloped pockets. if LJ didn't want them then they wouldn't use the pattern to do them.

The horsehide is Authentic Brown. The jacket is great... super comfortable. I love it.

What are scalloped pockets?

Here's an example:



Compare the above picture of Agent5 to the picture in the first post, and pay attention to the pocket flap.

Scalloped flaps are more dramatic, more pronounced curves in the flap, whereas the 'normal' flap that Wested provides just looks very plain.

I'm sure you can find more pictures for examples, and this is just one of them
